Good deal, but wish it was chariot instead. At least this frees up a spot. But as always we get rid of one contract just to be saddled by a new one (Gustafson for 2 years). Very happy to be getting a 3rd.

I think there is others I would have liked moved but realistically... you won't get a 3rd pick for those guys. A win is a win.

More space for the rookies and more cap space for this season to tweak the roster. Ends speculation for the most part if we move anyone else. Can't see them moving another vet from the back end unless we are clearly on the outside looking in at the deadline. Depth is too important, even if it's a Holl or Petry.

So after next year we will have holl, Petry and Maata gone, one more year of chiarot. Should have sexier wdvinsson and Johansson full time, maybe see some ASP.

Next year is Chiarots last (for now) also. Not to nitpick. There is an end in sight to the place holders. Forwards are a year or so behind in a similar sense, but a little more room for flexibility since you have more roster spots to play with if guys develop.

Oh I know, I meant to say this year, excited about where this team can go once these anchors are gone.

Not only does this give Detroit roster flexibility this year, but it alleviates the Kane bonus overage issue (and to a lesser extent, potential performance bonuses for Edvinsson and Kasper). The Red Wings were looking at a >$1 million overage carrying over to 25/26 for Kane alone (even if no playoffs), which shouldn't be an issue now.

Yzerman reads the boards and took my advice from the "Around the League" thread.

Ok, staple Gus to the press box and roll with the other 6 guys.

Nice way to clear space for Johansson with a solid return. I like the move.

Best wishes to Maatta who was solid here. No issue with that guy’s stint here at all, helped us get better.

Real opportunity for Johansson.
Yep, good sign in terms of the Wings trusting Johansson. He made Maatta expendable.

Good trade, best of luck to Maatta, he was a solid soldier for Detroit.

I like that they are making room for Johansson. He deserves a real shot.

At the same time I feel underwhelmed. Maatta was pretty low on the list of dman I’d like to see moved.

One of the few vets I would have kept but hey, if he has that kind of value and the management believes the kids are ready to take those spots... I am not gonna complain! That's a decent return.

I imagine it would be harder to trade Gus or Chiarot.

Best of luck to Maatta in Utah.
