Hard to say. He has been playing noticeably tired (or nervous) the past few games, as did most of the team. He has taken some body checks and put himself in positions I had not seen him get into when he was playing his best.
Maybe a little rest before the series start can help him reset. At his best, he is hard to hit because he is elusive. If he gets into positions where he can be out muscled, he is not playing to his strengths anymore.
For sure I am not suggesting he is unable to overcome it (that remains to be seen). Young players hit walls all the time as rookies. Also, the game has changed this time of year and requires a significant learning curve. The checking is tighter compared to most of the year he had more time to make plays.
This time of year, as soon as you go to play the puck in your own end there will immediately be a stick on the puck fighting you for it. My issue with Hutson is, he doesn't have the physical tools (size, strength) to win those battles. In these situations, his best play is to quickly move the puck which means every time it goes into his corner, the opponent knows it is going up the wall or around the net.
I've watched enough games to understand the Hutson hype. With the puck on his stick he reminds me of Marner a lot. I also understand why he was a 2nd round draft pick, because a lot of teams likely questioned this side of his development.
