Showing up for 20 minutes isn't the refs fault. Let's be real. The Habs have been incredibly fortunate over the last month to have come back and tied/won games late in the 3rd that the odds suggest are very unlikely and simply won't continue. They have been the recipient of a lot of fortunate bounces.

The blame does not like in the whistle (that way too often cascades across the Bell center every time they feel hard done by), the true blame is not showing up for the drop of the puck.
Habs fan here and your assessment is bang on.

God. Reading this thread is enough to give anyone gas.

Yes, the refs have been bad. But the refs have been bad BOTH ways. There are tons of penalties that weren't called on the Habs either.

And guess what? That happens EVERY year in EVERY playoffs. You either suck it the F up, or you go the F home. That's it. That's all there is to it.

Additionally, if the Caps lost game one the ref discussion would have been mostly about the missed call that resulted in Alexeyev's teeth laying on the ice.

I haven't seen many caps fans seriously complain about that. (certainly not to the insane, unrelenting, exhausting degree that .... never mind). Anyway, that was a clear follow-through. I was at a bar in DC, and the instant that was called, I turned to my friend and said "that's not a penalty, that was a followthrough" and he agreed. We were fine with the non-call.

I mean yeah of course the *arena* is gonna erupt. That's their job. You think Bell Centre isn't gonna go bananas if the refs change their mind on a penalty against the Caps tomorrow? Be real.

Please point out one bounce or one win that was "Fortunate". Let's be honest, we both know luck had nothing to do with this. Montreal had one of the top records in the league since December because their young roster is improving faster than people predicted. Nothing supernatural about it.

You got one thing right – their starts have been awful, as we saw in game-1. That's youth and inexperience. It's a weakness that will probably improve with experience, which means you can look forward to more of those magical, fortunate, lucky, flukey wins.

Im not complaining about it. What I also said which you didnt quote was that the studio guys even said its one of those things that happen. The problem I have with the entire narrative is that any of this was intentional.

Never expected Habs to win but will be disappointed if they get swept. Hoping for a game 6 with Slafkovsky, Demidov, Hutson impressing. Need something to build from.

I got a mod warning and it seems like you got mod edited. So let's keep it civil.

There were several trips by the Habs that went uncalled for yesterday night. One egregious one from behind in the 2nd. I am at work right now, so obviously can't bring the footage up. If someone else can clip it, they are more than welcome to.

It doesn't really matter though. That's hockey. You live and you learn. And you fight on.

If there is no crying in baseball, there DEFINITELY is no crying in hockey. Not in the playoffs.

Protas is huge and talented but, correct me if I'm wrong, he doesn't play a punishing physical game.
You're correct.

He DOES use his size well along the boards and in front of the net, mostly reaching for and controlling the puck. And he's of course tough to move. But he's not going to be manhandling opposing players or making them think twice and look three times on puck retrieval.

ETA: I think what catches a lot of opponents off guard is that he's actually one of, if not the, fastest skaters on the Caps, in the 91st percentile Top Skating Speed among all NHL forwards. So at a quick glance, seeing a guy who's about 6'6" (1.98 meters) and 250 lbs (113 kg) flying down the ice towards you at those speeds can cause panic decisions.

Seriously? Let's start with the Reinhart blocked shot inadvertent pass to a wide open Suzuki with 9 seconds left for an empty net. That was 100% luck. Went from a sure loss to an OT win. Even you have to admit you have been fortunate. Sure give them credit for never giving up, but losing to 4-1 to Colorado in the third ends up in a loss 99% of the time. Luck runs dry.

.... okay the league did not assign a fine to a play where a cross check to the face led to an injury. Normally that's 2-3 game suspension.
Then they admit how bad the refs are. They rather just sweep it under the rug. And this is why whatever team you cheer for, NHL is unwatchable.
The refs ruin the games. If it's missed called, subjective calls, game managment etc. Whatever team they want to sway to win, will win 90% of the time.

Lol... so Washington's first goal that bounced off Savard was also 100% 'lucky'. I guess the Caps only won because of luck. Good grief....

No offence, but your premise is ridiculous. May as well discredit every single win as 'lucky', because somewhere in every game there's a bounce that went this way instead of that. "Lucky" is when a puck takes a weird bounce off the stanchion or off the ref's ass. The rest is normal hockey.
