German forward possesses a tool kit that may see him turn into a good bottom-6 forward in the NHL. Good speed, never give up attitude and tenacious on the forecheck. Could see himself taken in the mid-late rounds in the 2023 NHL draft. We’ll see how things play out for the kid.

He was ranked #29 in Cosentino's first ranking. Quite surprised to see him there
Definitely an overreaction from the HGC- I don’t know if Bicker is better than a bottom-6 forward in the NHL.
Linus Brandl has had the far superior season to date and I would without a doubt have him ahead of Bicker at this point in time.

#22 Kevin Bicker
Bicker is a kid that looks much better when you watch him than when looking at the scoresheet. His numbers this year have been rather pedestrian but whenever I watch him play I am reminded of how being a good skater and having a good motor can take you places in hockey.

Bicker is a fantastic skater, he has the speed and acceleration to blow by most anyone at this level. One thing about Bicker is that he doesn’t like to cut to the middle of the ice, he prefers to use his speed to try and beat defenders to the outside.

During the game, the coach threw out Bicker as the first man on the PK, and you can see why, he doesn’t give up on plays, is constantly hounding players on the back-check and has the speed to disrupt any passive zone entry on the power play. In one play, he was able to stick lift the opposition from behind and poke the puck to his defender in one motion, then he was up the ice awaiting a pass in one swoop.

Overall I feel like Bicker could develop into a bottom-6 penalty killer that uses his speed and motor to frustrate opponents if he makes the NHL. I would select Bicker in the 5th round onward.

I’m sorry, it must sound like I’m just here to bash Germans. But I really don’t think Bicker will be drafted. With Brandls hockey sense, he’d be a high-end prospect. But his hockey sense is below average even at the DNL level.

Even if we assume he has NHL bottom six upside, that’s not what teams look for in the draft. Bottom-six players are a dime a dozen.

You’re not wrong, I also think some team may take a flyer on him because of his Hlinka preformance alone.

Most players that one would ”rank” after the 4th round are of risk of going undrafted anyway. He definitely has the type of game that is better suited as a free agent signee in a few years.

Just trying to give an honest scouting report on these players, so that someone may stumble across this page and find some good information on these players, it can be difficult to find information about German players so I want to try to make things more accessible. I also thought i‘d throw in a projection on where I’d draft them just to give a little context on how they stack up to some NA kids they’re more familiar with.

And I really appreciate you shedding light on the German prospects, don’t get me wrong. Just don’t think any of them will be drafted. I actually think the one with the best draft chance hasn’t been mentioned yet. ;)

Sumpf?

I’d be surprised if anyone other than these 3 get their names called.

Going into this season I still had hope that one of our better prospect (for my money it was between Brandl, Bicker and Sumpf) would have a breakout season and play themselves onto the radar of NHL teams, but that hasn't really happened.

Don't get me wrong all three of these guys, as well as a few others might have solid careers in Germany, but I don't really see them turning into NHL level prospects any more. I am sure that players will get drafted over them that shouldn't, but NHL teams are still far more likely to pick players from Sweden, Finland, Russia etc. than from countries like Germany even, if the prospects are basically at the same level, and you can't really blame them.

Bicker, like the others, is a guy I would keep an eye on, in case he shows well at the pro level in a couple of years, but I would not really draft him this year.
It 's easier to just wait and see how hew develops, maybe invite him to rookie camp if he goes undrafted.

Other than Bicker, Brandl and Sumpf there is really not much there. Ruckdäschel has shown some promise in the DEL. He could become a useful pro player, but lacks upside in my opinion. Niehus is just so hot and cold when I watch him. At times he has looked really good, but I have not seen it consistently enough from him.
Lastly there are some goalies that look intriguing to me, but goalies are so difficult to project and I am very hesitant to make predictions on their development as goalies still confound me.
Initially I was pretty high on Willerscheid, but he has not been as good as I was expecting, this season. Pertuch is a bit like Niehus to me. Absoulutely stellar one time and then very disappointing the next. This season I have really started to like Ankirchner. I think there is some decent potential there, but again I am not good with goalies.

Didn't show much offense in the DEL, but had a decent WJC U20 campaign. Any idea what his role looks like for 24-25? He should be on the German U20 team again, I would assume.

More than decent U20 tourney, scored only 1 goal but thanks to his brilliant net front presence Germany scored at least 3-4 goals. And Germany scored 9 goals, so Bicker was involved in almost all of them, since he also had 3 assists.

And yes he should be in next tournament as well, injury is most likely the only thing what could prevent his participation. As for his club team, Frankfurt has a new coach Tom Rowe and if he has two working brain cells, he puts Bicker in that net front role.

So far it's looks like Draper found a good one.
