"He's so competitive," Bob Hartley said post game. "Everyone talks about how skilled he is out there but he's also so competitive. He plays with no fear. This was a big, rough LA team and he was buzzing out there. It was a great game for Johnny."

It would have been awesome if Hudler passed it to Johnny a little sooner than what he did in OT. I think he tried to fake Quick but Quick didn't bite one bit.

I'm so glad I drafted him in my hockey pool. I expect him to just get better and better throughout the year. I see him getting 25 goals 60-70 points for sure.

Where are the former critics on this thread? Are they really just going to vacate the premises before giving credit where credit is due?

Yeah, seriously, this is one of those instances where the hate-crew was so loud, obnoxious, and outspoken, they deserve to get harassed and admit they were wrong.

i've been a big JG supporter since before he was drafted but 35 games does not a career make. he will experience hardships and drought like any other young player trying to establish themselves.

I agree. Can someone pull up some of the worst quotes from the posters that were most outspoken not giving Gaudreau a chance to be a decent NHL'er?

If they just vacate the threads and never come back to eat crow they deserve to be shamed. Consistently IMO until they come back.

Yeah Devonator, Nbwingsfan, and landymack92 have been kicking dirt on this guy for over a year. Each guy has posted 100+ messages saying Gaudreau would never do anything at the NHL level. Saying he was overhyped and that he really wasn't special in any way.

But now the people who have following this kid for 3 or 4 years, the people that knew what an incredible talent this kid is, well they are looking smart. And it hasn't been only Flames fans hyping him. I recognize lots of fans from other teams that have been defending this kid from the begining as passionately as flames fans.

I'm excited to see what he can do when he has Sam Bennett as his center instead of Jooris or Granlund.

Sure, but I don't think there's much doubt that he's a good NHLer going forward, which a lot of people were quite loudly saying wouldn't happen as recently as early this season.

But last night was one of the first times he played with Sean Monahan for the majority of the game, and in the last 40 minutes were flat out dominant. I thought Sean, because of his goal scoring ability, created a little more space for Johnny then Josh Jooris did.

It was only a matter of time till the goals started coming. 6 goals in his last 9 gp. He was battling some puck luck early on, but as expected he's begun to pot a few.

I find it amusing that his first hat trick came literally days after a number of posts were made about how JG should have Monahan on his line because he should get to play with a finisher. Clearly he solved that issue on his own.

Hate to break this to you, but he did have Monahan on his line last night and it clearly created some space. I'd hold off on the snickering about how that's not a good idea when it clearly looks that way so far. Also pretty funny to be dismissive of it after just 60 mins.

That's not the point. The point is that those 35 games alone already exceed the projections of some of his more insufferable critics. Seriously, some of the most prominent participants in the summer Gaudreau threads were adamant that Gaudreau would never play a top six role in the NHL and would be an "AHL superstar" or playing in Europe.

It's not snickering that it's a "bad idea". Just amused that Monahan was supposed to be the one scoring. Not supposed to be part of a "serious business" debate at all.

Either way, Gaudreau would clearly benefit from having a finisher on his line. Great that he scored a hatty, and I'm sure he'll continue to score more... but the fact remains when he has someone who can finish on his line with regularity, it's going to be a good thing.

I am on board that Monahan and Gaudreau are a good duo. Honestly, Johnny can pretty much play with almost any center. Look at how well he played with Bennett in the rookie tournament.

Looking at the replay, it sure does look like he saw Doughty turn his skates to break and decided to try and bank it off him. Not sure if anyone else thinks the same.

I don't really expect Johnny to play with Monahan much, only on power plays and to give the team an occasional boost. I think management wants Johhny to anchor the scoring line and Monahan to anchor the top line down the road.

I stil maintain that ultimately we're going to see:

Gaudreau - Bennett - Porrier

as a line. That is an insane mix of tenacity, skill, speed and play-making ability. Can't wait to see that line for years to come. :yo:
