Can somebody give me a scouting report on this guy. A late birthday that have pretty good size and great numbers for Seattle. Could see him in the first round next year.

Dillon Hamaliuk

I like his game and he really uses his size well but has plenty of skill for a bigger guy. Good passer with a good shot and plays a pretty complete game. The only weakness to his game really is his skating and it's not overly bad. Got off to a good start this year with 1G+2A in his 1st game and he's someone who could go anywhere from the later 1st to mid rounds imo.

Not getting enough recognition. This year’s draft crop from out west just keeps getting better. Hamaliuk is a big, strong-skating playdriver currently sitting at 6 goals and 15 points in 7 games. To put this in perspective, other projected top-10 draft prospects from the dub Dylan Cozens, Kirby Dach, and Peyton Krebs are sitting at 12 points (5 goals) in 9 games, 17 points (5 goals) in 10 games, and 11 points (3 goals) in 8 games, respectively. Seattle is a pretty good team, but Hamaliuk is leading the scoring and is a huge driver of the Thunderbirds’ success, not a passenger.

He’s playing his way deep into the first round IMO. He owns a really impressive and well-polished all-around game, too.

continues his very hot start to the year with 1G+2A tonight giving him 6G+9A in only 7 games. Unreal that he was a 6th round pick in the WHL draft

i agree, it looks like he's already starting to put it all together, he's been really impressive

Hamaliuk vs Cozens is going to be very interesting

In less than 4 games played, Hamaliuk has tied Cozens for primary points

Was having a good season in Seattle and played in the Canada/Russia series and was also set to play in the top prospect game later this month but is now out for the rest of the season with an injury. Too bad for him

Some mock drafts and rankings had him in the late 1st/early 2nd round for the draft

Could have a real good year with Kelowna next year when they host Memorial Cup. Kelowna will stock up huge with a great team I have no doubt about it

Starts the year off in a big way with a buzzer beater with about .5 seconds left in OT to win it. Had 2G+2A in the 4-3 win. As long as he can stay healthy he should put up big numbers

If he returns to his pre-concussion numbers from the early part of last season then I wouldn't be surprised with a 90 or 100 point season and a spot in the Canada's WJC camp.

He's a very good prospect.. he will help Kelowna big time this season. It is too bad Seattle dealt him but I get why they did... Hamaliuk is a late birthday so this will be his final season in junior most likely and TBirds are setting up for 2-3 years down the road

Possibly but the Sharks aren't shy about sending guys back for an overage year lately. Did it with Blichfeld and Gregor last year and McGrew this year. Notice they are all WHL kids too.

The Kelowna Rockets acquired Dillon Hamaliuk to bolster their scoring for the Memorial Cup campaign and he delivered with two goals on opening night, including the overtime winner. Here is my look back at Hamaliuk’s immediate impact and what he’ll bring to the team going forward: https://thehockeywriters.com/kelowna-rockets-hamaliuk-heroic-in-debut/
Hi Larry, thanks for the content you bring, it’s great stuff. Please use the individual player threads for articles like these if you wish to share, thanks!

He wasn't. It was a weird bug that he was included in boxscores. Plus I have never heard of a player being recalled after being sent back to juniors.

Appreciate it. I never saw it, but did look at the scores last night.

They can be recalled for emergency purposes. I was thinking Wilson was exploiting the system or something.

I've watched Hamaliuk play live probably 20+ times. Good forward who stands out at the WHL level. Has an IQ and offensive ability that clearly stands out at the Junior level. I've always wondered if he had enough to make it at the NHL level as I don't see the grit or sand paper in his game necessary to play in the bottom six yet I wonder if he has the top end skill to live in an NHL top six. Kind of reminds me of a Mikael Samuelsson if I was to draw a comparison.

Yeah, that MS comparison is pretty good. In a way, I feel like he already plays a pro game (with the puck) - the plays may not wow you with skill - but the puck is in the net or has gone from his stick to the player who put it in the net.

So, he's not flashy but he has all the skill that when combined with his IQ means he has a real shot at the NHL. He should be a moderate point producer at the pro level, at a minimum. Personally, I think he'll score a lot more than that. And while he's not got a that extra sandpaper, he's also not afraid of the wall or the front of the net or the other greasy areas and he has the body to cope there.
