Assuming the oilers don't move up in the lottery and have between pick 8-12 in this year's draft what is the value here for a trade? There is precedence with Ribiero almost being moved for a lottery pick 4 years ago.

If Habs know they'll miss on Tavares, i'd go the rebuild road and do Lucic + Edm 1st for Jacob de La Rose and Byron.

No chance they add the first to just get rid of Lucic. Lucic hasn't been great this year (massive understatement) but he is getting at least next year to redeem himself.

Not trading our high first round pick to get rid of Lucic. He'll never be worth 6m but he's certainly not as bad as he's been this year. Although it's hard to tell cause more than half our roster is underperforming this year.

There will be no need to trade Lucic. He will go on LTIR sooner or later. $6 million off the cap. Count on it.

Would Toronto even be on Lucic's list of 8 or 10 teams he can be traded to? The guy is in the driver's seat, not Edmonton.

Anyways, if you quickly see someone's shooting percentage cut in half, the problem is often not that player's fault.
Goalies don't have to 'cheat' when the player has the puck, or teammates are setting up poor plays. He's probably the
same player he's always been. There are players any idiot can draft and play in any circumstance. Oilers have one of
the best. But for the rest of the minions, many of them have holes in their game. And they're like pieces of a jig-saw
puzzle. That one hole is where you're suppose to fulfill with a different piece. Do this enough times, you get the
full picture. The management of the Oilers in my mind not only can't seem to figure out what piece goes with what
piece, but have pieces of different puzzles mixed together.

If the article I read on the last Lucic thread is true, good luck getting rid of him. Anyone who makes a move for him should do so fully expecting him to be on their roster until the contract expires.

Better just to hold onto him for the time being. Maybe he'll have a resurgence in a year or two and someone will take him off your hands.

If the pick is at the 2/3 slot then it's worth having that chat, other than that ... no way.
Majority of teams in the league with a bit of cap would take on a contract like Lucic if it involved a top 10 pick. Don't kid yourself.

These proposals are horrible.

Yep. Vancouver, for example, suddenly finds themselves swimming in cap space and Benning loves gritensity. BC native Lucic would be an interesting target for them...

While true, we already have a plethora of bad contracts on the books. The only way I could see a Lucic to Vancouver deal would be if we are sending Louie back to Edmonton while Edmonton throws in a mid draft pick for us to take on the extra year of the contract. Don't see it happening.

Then we’re not taking Lucic.

You can confidently say that as a fan, but Benning (and Bergevin) might be the only trading GMs as bad as Chiarelli.

It’s a fan’s wet dream to only give up an overpaid third liner to get an equally bad contract back and a top ten pick. It has zero basis in reality.

Lucic with 15% retention is 5.1 million for five more years. Sutter is 4.375 for three more years. Edmonton isn’t giving up a top ten pick for ~700k in cap space and sub Ryan Strome production, amigo. It would make more sense to retain more (in the 25-30% range), keep their pick, and get a not-garbage return.
