I don't know---I'm not really a physics guy but it seems to me if our ball was heavier than others it would have been more likely floating along on the bottom than towards the top or might have just gone half way up the flue than all the way. Heaviest ball wins.

I think the only teams that fans would've been quiet about were Florida, Nashville and Minnesota. Maybe Winnipeg.

The Crosby draft was pretty much a travesty all around for the Rangers. We were easily one of the two or three worst teams in the league and had all these extra ping pong balls and then our ball never comes up--team after team get their picks and finally we end up with 16. Later on we trade 16 and a 2nd rounder to move up 4 spots to draft Marc Staal at 12.

Leading up to that though Mario had been threatening the league for months that he was going to move his team out of Pittsburgh. Penguins fans--well there really weren't any fans at that point...they weren't filling the arena anyway---Penguin hockey then kind of looked like pandemic hockey now. And Mario being Mario and the league always fawning over him and appalled that he might actually live up to his threat and so Crosby became King Penguin (well Mario was really King Penguin but he leant him his crown)--and then no more threats from Mario--everything was joy in Mudville (aka as the Antarctica of the north).

Bettman hates Dolan. No way he is rigging the draft to benefit the Rangers.

I was waiting for him to not confirm it was the Rangers ball.

"Mr Bettman can you confirm this is the NY Rangers ball"

"No, this machine must be malfunctioning. We will start this process over. Bring me a new henchman!"

we've complained for 15 years about how the nhl rigged the draft to give the penguins crosby (instead of rigging it to give him to us lol) and trust me pens fans could careless
Having spoken to many of them they care very very much. Not being sarcastic. Thry hate how no one has respect for the fanbase or franchise

Ha yeah. The good old days with Sebastien Caron in net and Edzo on the bench. I think Orpik and Ryan Whitney were their top-two defensemen. That was terrible hockey.

in all honesty the 2005 draft with Pittsburgh winning Crosby was definitely fixed, I would bet my house on it....there was no video proof of any sort as to how Pittsburgh won that lottery, I remember it vividly. it was Bettman with the GM's of Pittsburgh and Anaheim present only and Bettman opened up an envelope with Pittsburgh's logo on it and no proof or video of how the Pittsburgh logo won the lottery.

If you remember back then the Pens were bankrupt and were ready to move out of Pittsburgh, Bettman rigged that lottery to save that franchise and gave them Crosby on a silver platter. If you research that draft you will find that there is no evidence anywhere on how the #1 pick was chosen. Bettman just whipped out that envelope and gave the #1 pick to the Pens.

Sure.

another thing...no franchise has suffered more in the history of the NHL than the Rangers....we should have 2 more stanley cups and Detroit should have 2 less Stanley cups...in 1937 we met the redwings in the cup final but had to play all the games in Detroit because MSG was not available due to the Circus, well we lost that 5 game series 3-2, if we had at least 2 games at MSG we would of won that cup, same thing in 1950 against the redwings again, we lost that series in game 7 double OT with no games being held at MSG....then factor in the unfair drafting rules where montreal and toronto got all the great players and we got nobody in any draft whatsoever...we have been screwed for a very long time, we deserve this pick more than anybody in the NHL

I guess I'm one of the "six" here who do believe there was some funny business with Crosby and the Penguins.

As you mention, the whole whining Maryo thing.

Then the league didn't have a TV contract. It was OLN which became Versus which became NBCSN. In the early days of that NBCSN deal, it certainly looked like the Penguins and Crosby got every single break so the league could sell the superstar to NBC and the "public". I have no doubt there was rigging going on. Bettman wanted a huge TV deal and a more popular league, so all he had to do was go back to the early 80's NBA playbook to replay what that league did to get on TV (rig games in favor of the Lakers and Celtics due to the stars on each team, as well as home games for teams barely on the edge financially. There was a LOT of franchise movement in the NBA in the late 70's).

The Rangers getting the 2 OA last year and the 1 OA this year? It's either cosmic justice, or payback for the screwings of the past two decades.

Well, the circus nonsense was not the fault of the NHL. That was a Garden decision based on the financial benefits of dozens of circus shows versus a few Ranger playoff games.

The 1957-58 season was another one where the Rangers got hosed in the first round against Boston. Rangers finished 2nd and had "home ice" against Boston, but had to play Game #5 in Boston. They played Games 1 and 2 in New York, but 3-6 in Boston.

The circus was still screwing with the Rangers and Knicks until the late 1980's. I can remember Ranger playoff games starting at 8:45 PM because of a circus performance.

your right

ok show me the video proof of the 2005 draft, I would love to see it...where is it ??
I don't have video proof. The draft lottery is always conducted by EY, whose reputation is worth billions to them and attended by representatives of all teams in the lottery. Pretty sweet of them to all agree that Pittsburgh needed that one.

Very excited to be on the other side of these dumb as hell lottery conspiracies now.

The NHL was always pumping Mario's tires back then. It's not really like that anymore but back then if Mario said something it carried a huge amount of weight. Actually I think it's marred people's views of Crosby over the years as well. No doubt that Sidney complains a lot on the ice but basically he's not just carrying his own whininess he's carrying Mario's too. I actually though respect Crosby more as a player--he's never really turtled or faked being hurt and always pushed back on his own and he's good with the small gestures such as going up to Martin St. Louis after his mom died.

As far as the Rangers and this pick goes though this is the first time really the Rangers have had the 1st overall and they never ever attempted to tank for anything. The pre-expansion 1965 entry draft like all pre-expansion entry drafts were pretty much meaningless just dividing up a very small number of junior age players in Canada who'd somehow fallen between the cracks of being affiliated to one of the original 6 teams. Yes, occasionally there were some good players like Brad Park but most of them were junk and that includes sometimes pretty much entire drafts.

I'm sure you also believe that Lee Harvey Oswald was the only shooter

The whole weighted ball theory is so dumb. The ball would fall to the bottom of the lottery machine and be less likely bounce and rise up to the chute. People will find a million ways to discredit draft lotteries. The entire idea of it isnt perfect and it never will be.

I've heard several Devils fans whining about it too. About how the whole second phase was BS. They won two years in a row for crying out loud. stfu. But hearing them bitch about it is GOLD to me.
