Second poll!

Vote for one player, and post who you want to add to the next poll.

Added to this poll: Nikolai Prokhorkin.

Only players who are eligible for the 2020 Calder trophy (so no Wagner, Amadio, etc). Calder eligibility is defined as:
- No older than 26 years old as of September 15th, 2019 (so Prokhorkin just makes the cut, if you wish to vote him in)
- Has not played in more than 25 games in one season or more than 6 games in two consecutive seasons. (so Matt Roy, at 25 games, just makes the cut if you want to vote him in)

If someone wants to pick up the slack on days I am not quick on the draw, it's encouraged!

#1 - Alex Turcotte, F, 59.1%

On another note, as you're all participating, do you feel the 2 day poll is enough time, too much time? I know it's tough to gauge with the 4th of July weekend, and figure 1 day polls are too short on days where people work and may not check HF daily.

I thought 2 days was too long, but I like your reasoning and it gives ample amounts of time to draw better conclusions. Especially since after the top 3 it'll be pretty spread out.

I'll try one day after this one to see how everyone likes it. Like you, I prefer daily polls, but I am also on here daily :)

I voted Kupari #1 because of his record against higher competition. Which I’ll stick to for #2, even though it’s not as clear with Peterson.

He put up very good numbers behind a garbage Kings squad, similar to Campbell, in limited minutes. With a low scoring team, goal tending becomes more valuable in terms of wins and losses.

Even if CP isn’t the heir to Quick, he should be good enough to push Campbell for starts if / when Quick isn’t available. This should give Blake the freedom to move Campbell for futures. He projects as a solid bridge goalie, heir to Jon Bernier is my guess.

2 days are perfect as far as I am concerned. add Akil Thomas please Still Vilardi for me till he sticks thats my vote

I still choose Vilardi. I think he has the potential to be a high end top line center. Our top three prospects are actually really, really good. I can't remember the last time we had three offensive prospects that had a chance to make a real impact on the team.

But in ranking them, I think of ceiling, not floor. So for me, I've got Vilardi, then Turcotte, then Kupari, but the gap between them honestly isn't very large.

no but if we had a Toronto/Montreal like coverage of everything hockey, we'd probably discover that Vilardi took a few accounting classes during the summer

If there's nothing reported, then no, it would be pretty irresponsible to assume someone's career is over.

Please feel free not to vote for him if you don't feel he qualifies. Others have chosen to take the same approach.

For the sole purpose of being fair... Vilardi should no longer be on these ballots until he is proven healthy.

Voted: Rasmus Kupari

I would take a one-legged Vilardi over any of our prospects not named Turcotte.

Just as fair as it is to leave him off for health reasons, it's fair to keep him on for potential.

If he doesn't play for another full year I may start to change my tune not because of talent/recover but rather lack of ice and development time, but as of now, yes, he's that good, and folks trying to bully everyone else to leave Vilardi off need to lay back and discuss other prospects instead of wasting space on OT metadiscussion over Vilardi's inclusion in the poll because it's already underway.

100% agree. He dropped because of health issues. There was talk of him challenging Nolan Patrick for the first overall pick early in his draft year. He’s that talented.

If I’m the Kings, I manage his recovery closely, make sure he’s 110%, then get him onto the ice.

I think the issue is that “top prospect” is a bit murky. Are we talking about which prospect might be the best overall player or which prospect is most likely to make the NHL? Those are two very different questions. Highest potential? Vilardi. Most likely NHLer? Turcotte.

With that said, I think Turcotte could very well be a first line center as well. Kupari I’m less certain of, but that’s probably in part due to the Kings’ history (or lack thereof) with foreign players.

I'm not sure why having him on the poll is unfair, because he is a Kings prospect. Could you explain? And even if we saw a video of him bench pressing a truck on Instagram tomorrow, people will still rightfully question his health and eligibility until he plays a full season. So when will his health be considered "proven"?

I am in a holding pattern with Vilardi. Kupari for #2 prospect is my pick.

Sorry for getting defensive. I'm bummed by his lack of progress, like everyone. I feel like the inclusion of Vilardi will be contested until the polls are completely closed, which sucks because it's only the 2nd poll and I was hoping to do at least 10.
