In recent years, the Los Angeles Kings have grown into one of the better organizations at scouting and recruiting in the NCAA. Despite losing highly regarded forward Hudson Fasching to the Buffalo Sabres via trade, they still boast an incredibly deep and talented group of NCAA prospects.

That group includes a power forward from Wisconsin, a freshman for UND, and a trio of St. Cloud State Huskies coming off a division title. They have also dabbled into the European market for the first time in a while in selecting the mercurial talent Nikolai Prokhorkin.

Even more impressive is the fact that the organization has selected these players in the fourth round and beyond, leaving them in the category of low risk but high reward.… read more

I like the article, Jason. Just one big disagreement.

Tomas Hyka is still an intriguing prospect with size and skill?

Yea I caught that after I submitted. My fault. Correction incoming soon.

Wait, you mean 5'11 isn't big though? *Facepalm*

Do you think the Kings sign Mersch, Lowry and Dowd once their seasons are over? I think Gravel for sure will... I believe Lowry's season is completely finished... just wondering if anyone has heard anything.

Also in DL's first few seasons he was really active in signing undrafted College FA's but last year and this year nothing... is that by choice? or just missing out on getting some players...

There are less and less quality college FA's each season. A decade ago you could count on a few each class, not so much lately.

The USHL is getting better talent, especially from Minnesota so kids who would have maybe slipped through the cracks are now late round picks largely based on what they have done in the USHL.

I was going to be mean and add "skill" in the questioning, since I've never been too impressed by Hyka, but I thought the better of it :)

Overall I really like your article. Thank you for writing it!

I am sure they will sign both Mersch and Dowd, since Lombardi tried to sign both of them last year.

Lowry is still a Junior.
