Taking a break from discussing how to best blow up our entire team so that we can fill it with 18 year old "potential" - I've found myself curious what the Isles will do with their first round pick. As we know, they have to decide whether to give this years #5 pick to Buffalo, or next years pick which could possibly turn out to be one of the two gems.
If the Isles truly believe that they will be better next year and even possibly make the playoffs - then they would obviously take the really good player to be had at #5, and give up next years pick.
However - you never know what will happen, and giving up McDavid for Vannek is a career ending move. But if Snow plays it safe for next year giving up the #5 pick this year, and the Isles do better next year, he'll also get screwed.
It's an interesting dilemma ... and I know if the Isles board is anything like ours, Snow will get ripped no matter what choice he makes.
What would you do in his shoes? I think I would give up next years pick (2015) and do everything in my power to take a shot at finishing better than 5th last. A bird in the hand and all that - they will get a very good player at #5 this year, with no guarantees about next year.
