Anytime a poster becomes giddy about Mailloux's production in Laval, try to remind them of that almost 2 minute sequence against the Islanders when Mailloux was on the ice and the team was hemmed in its own zone. It was a pathetic sight.

People should really watch the games in Laval. They would see that Mailloux has trouble overcoming the forecheck pressure in the AHL. This kid doesn't have the skating to play effectively in the NHL . Or at least not yet. I'd change my opinion if just once I saw Mailloux recover the puck behind his own net, beat the first forechecker and transport the puck up the ice. Just once. Not asking much.

Would you do Mailloux + for Zegras?

It all depends what the add is. Would you give up Beck? Hage? A first round pick?

I don’t think Zehras fits our time frame. We’re two years from competing. Just when Zegras becomes a free agent.

I’m no Zegras fan. Certainly not at $5.75 million over the next two years.

The real problem is that anyone with a modicum of hockey knowledge can see that Mailloux needs a substantial upgrade in skating ability for him to be an impactful or even an effective defenceman at the NHL level. I think his market value has already been impaired.

Mailloux has some superlative talents: first pass, offensive vision and shot. He may yet develop into the player that we all hoped for when he was picked. But if the right deal comes along, I would have no qualms about bundling him with other assets. Let some other team hope he gains that missing other step. But not for Zegras.

If my kid ends up playing forward, I'm gonna teach him how to Michigan.. apparently doing a Michigan in the NHL is all you need for this fan base to want to trade for you, even if you've been a horrible, soft, Drouin impersonator for well over two seasons now.

If we trade Mailloux, I don't see any logic for the return to be anything other than a good top pairing RD. I don't mind Zegras, but like you suggest he's not really someone you want to rely on. I'd go with a Mesar+ and leave if they ask anyone better.

Surely you jest, we saw him in the NHL? What's the point of being blindly supporting every player m
How about you get off my nuts? He played better than most on our D-core at the NHL level while playing less than 100 junior games and less than 100 AHL games. He has great upside and is doing incredibly well in the AHL.

Edit: And I am not blindly supporting every player. I am just speaking about players I like.

He didn't play better than anyone, he was literally the worst defensive player I've seen with the Habs.

Its fine, he's young, theres still time, no need to lie

We have a young defenseman who improved a lot last year. Got an early call up onto a team with zero defensive structure and he's now likely washed up to some. He's a good prospect but not the saviour. The hot takes on this team are crazy especially so early in the season. Rebuilding and development isn't linear. There's going to be ups and downs. Way to early to panic in my opinion.

Read some good things, read some bad things. Logan, May-you:allears::laugh: please find your defensive game as Montreal could sure use your offensive talent.
