Hey guys so...I know we all love Matthews and Marner together but Inthink it’s time to split them especially with Matthews nursing his injury and not being the shooter at the moment...Marner has a muffin of a shotn (it’s better than last year but still) and he can’t play that role. Maybe for Thursday try this just to see

First off our older guys need a break, Jumbo is not a 20 min a night guy or even close anymore as much as I love him, Bogo needs a break
I’m tired of salary dictating where people play in the lineup, I don’t care what you make this is where you fit when we are clicking yes Kerfoot would be a massive overpayment as a 4th line C but at this point I’m not breaking up that 3rd line and he’s shown he’s too soft on his stick to be top 2 lines...heck you can slot him with Matty and Nylander if it bothers you that much but I think Barabanov would slide in very well with Marner and Tavares...

Guaranteed you put TO line back together with Zach JT and Mitch and you have top producing line in NHL again ... when Matty is hurt and clearly not producing enough speed right now you gotta do something ... put him on LTIR for 2 weeks to let him heel ... trying to use this soft point in schedule next week to help him rest up seems like a 2nd best solution to me

I agree right now. If matthews is not shooting right now (which is crazy to me) then put will beside him since he probably has the 2nd best shot on our team.

Marner can be the set up guy for JT. Marner’s strength is passing not shooting.

Marner played with JT when AM was out and did nothing .

this team would go no where catering to Capt Mumbles just like the Islanders went no where for 9 yrs

All of the big four made the scoresheet last night. I would switch Marner and Nylander for a spell if/when needed though considering the amount invested in those four players. Lehtonen in for Bogosian obviously changes the outlook of the special teams in particular. Bogosian did also sit out a game not too long ago. I wouldn't drop Kerfoot that far down in the lineup, and not for Barabanov or even Vesey. Don't let the line combos mislead either as Thornton averages closer to 15 minutes per game.

Happily, I don’t think the sky is falling and Matthews and Marner are one of the top tandems in the nhl bar none...I’m just thinking Marner is a pass first player who needs a shooter and if matty is hurt then wouldn’t it make sense to put him with a shooter until Matty is healed up

JT isn't a shooter , he's a vulture who needs his line mates to create scoring chances for him .

better we switch JT to AM's wing and try to build a line around Willie at C

Willie between Hyman and Mik should work and that way cement feet can vulture around the net and pad his stats on the 1st line

I understand but chemistry has been tentative with the 2 lines.
Marner needs to play his own game and stop worrying about Matthews. Willy and JT, don't look too bad and they need to build on that.
The best change the team can do is shifting that starter goalie to bench duties when goals against double the xga. How about pulling a goalie from time to time?
Anderson gets more leash than Jordan Binnington.

honestly , i just don't understand how he constantly gets a free pass regardless of how he plays , last year it was ''he's a new father' , this year it's shitting on anybody and everybody to try to deflect away from his sub par play as well as lowering the bar for his play to be acceptable

i could be wrong but it seems like since people believe we're stuck with him long term they've decided to kind of just not talk about his play because there's nothing the team can do to move him

I don’t know I don’t think he’s been that bad personally...yes his foot speed fell off a cliff but we were expecting that (not this quickly though) he still does a ton of little things right and I certainly don’t think he’s a detriment to the team in the slightest, if him learning to really focus on a two way game takes us further than we have been getting I don’t care if he reaches 50 points again in his career...we have the horses for the offence

Jesus the hate for Tavares is strong with you isn’t it...

"Vulture" has a negative and loaded connotation but actually sort of fits with Tavares' M.O. around the net. Once the initial shot attempt has been made and there's a rebound and collapse to the front of the net, that's sort of where Tavares thrives. In close, rebound goal, a la JVR.

I'm thinking the only option the Leafs have to get more production out of the second line. Would be to move Mikheyev upto the second line. He's shown alot of improvement recently, and with his speed and aggressiveness it will help that line to play with more intensity. Hopefully it will run off on Nylander to play a more consistent game. He has these lackadaisical moments that becomes nerve wracking to watch.

When have we had success with that? It was a total flop in game 5 last year and produced nothing the one game we tried it this year.

The current lines are absolutely dominating and Keefe won't be breaking any of them up.

Hyman will continue to get spot duty in Thornton's spot to keep Joe rested and when the team needs a boost.

I agree with the caveat of a power forward lw on the second not being available as an upgrade to Kerfoot. Kerfoot is decent but I love the third line as is and they could use a grinder on the second. Oh what I would give to get Kadri back to fill that roll...

We need to hide Tavares any way we can, so moving Marner next to him would help
