News Article: Linden Vey's father found guilty of conspiracy to commit murder (Mod Warning in OP)

You should probably take less acid.

What a shame.....man this organization has a lot of tragedy.

well, at least this BS was caught BEFORE it happened, so tragedy averted, yay?
:shakehead

sigh, hopefully the situation gets resolved properly...if "properly" means anything at all.

This is just a crazy story, period. It is impossible for any of us to say how much if any major amount of this impacted his on ice performance. It is just an amazing story in its own right, so save the expertise in how Vey's hockey game has evolved and what impacted it for other threads.

This story is a tragedy for two families....a reminder that there's a lot more important things in life than hockey.....whatever is in store for Vey's hockey career you have wish him the best.

Crazy story

At least he said it makes no excuses for his two worst seasons as a hockey player.

Thats just something players say... It forsure has to have had a massive emotional impact that would effect all aspects of everyones life unless you are a robot...

Hopefully for him and us he gets closure of sorts and gets help to put it behind him so he can fulfil his potential.

The real excuse is that these last two seasons he's been playing in a league he doesn't belong in.

At times he did belong and he had good periods then WD overplayed him. You could argue he might have been better off with a better coach who didn't put him in bad spots to succeed. Maybe the family issue (and WD feeling bad for Vey) was the reason Vey got a lot of ice time but realistically it got him exposed in bad match-ups that he really wasn't ready for.

Got to feel sorry for Vey after this story... i'll be cheering for him to make the team even if the odds are stacked against him. He isn't even trying to blame his family issues for his poor play when realistically it'll affect anyone. Altho honestly not making the team could be a good thing for Vey... a change of scenery to Europe could be exactly what he needs. If nothing else it gets him away from the case.

The court heard how Brigitte's suspicions about her husband grew after she caught him texting in the tub and would not say who he was communicating with. Brigitte told the court how she approached her son to ask about the possibility of an affair. At one point she confronted her husband about whether he was having an affair, but he denied it.

Crazy story all around... found out about it with an ipod recording!

Regardless of what anyone thinks of Linden Vey the hockey player, this is a nightmarish situation no one should have to go through, doubly so for such a young man.

Thoughts go out to the Vey family.

I don't know how one gets found guilty for this sort of thing.

IIRC, Linden's mum became suspicious and hid an audio recorder to hear what he was saying ... or I'm getting mixed up with another case.

So how much jailtime does he get?

Conspiracy to commit murder can hold up to a life sentence, I don't know the minimum sentence or parole

People are astonished at this kind of thing but TBH the average person these days is doing similar stuff. Letting their child fall into a gorilla exhibit, pulling a baby dolphin out of the water to take selfies with it.

It's all the same selfish monster that is grasping society, my desire>all (including life)

This isn't a these days problem as it as a species problem. We're super tribal and will basically let anything happen as long as it doesn't affect us personally

Apparently, she was suspicious that he was having an affair. It turned out to be more to it than that.

So damn bizarre. I may not like Linden as a player, but all the respect in the world for the guy. It could NOT have been easy go go to the rink everyday, knowing your dad tried to get your mom killed. Thats scarring.

You forgot to put a dozen quotes around "average"....

The punishment is set out in s. 465(1)(a) of the Criminal Code and as you say, the maximum is life imprisonment.

There is no minimum. The judge can't grant a discharge where the maximum penalty is life in prison, but theoretically the range runs from a suspended sentence and probation all the way up to life in prison.

"465 (1) Except where otherwise expressly provided by law, the following provisions apply in respect of conspiracy:

(a) every one who conspires with any one to commit murder or to cause another person to be murdered, whether in Canada or not, is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to a maximum term of imprisonment for life;"
