Liljegren needs a long term contract

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. The admin team will continue to work on existing issues, templates and upgrade all necessary available addons to minimize impact of this new version. Click Here for Updates
Lilijegren is showing that he's arguably our best RHD but I'd bridge him due to the sample size and pay him market value when the time is right.

3-3.5 at max term is a no brainer for me. If Im his agent I do 3 year max, banking on he will command top dollar after that. Hope he prefers the security of term though.

Every player is 1 injury away from retirement. It is the job of agents to get the most money possible for as long as possible. With a max contract length of 8 years, an 8 year deal for 4 million per, would take him to 30ish, would be able to get probably north of 6 or 7 and likely as high as 10 over 6-8 at the end of it based on inflation assuming he performs.
It's not advisable for a younger player to lock themselves into a long term contract before attaining peak value, especially not one with the upside Lilly has, and certainly not before the tripled TV revenue kicks in.

Contract insurance handles the injury part.

The contract insurance is only as long as the contract. So if you sign 1 year and god forbid you have a career ending injury, you only get 1 year salary.

The thing that scares me about not signing him long term is the last year of his bridge, if he pulls a Subban, it could get too expensive.

Reminds me of Reilly's contact situation coming off his every level deal. I think he signed 5 years @ $5,000,000. During the first season of his new deal, the thought was that we'd overpaid. By the second year into the new deal, it was clear we hadn't.
