Long time Ranger fan coming in peace. Andersson was much maligned since the day we drafted him. Obviously the relationship soured and we traded him for the pick that landed us Will Cuylle (who we are high on as an NHL player starting next year).

I saw Andersson is yet to crack the lineup for the Kings consistently. Is this due to injury, performance, or a logjam? Just curious how this trade turned out on your end.

Thanks!

He’s a career AHL’er.

The trade was solid at the time as I believe the Kings were trying to get a bottom 6 tough to play against winger. I liked the trade at the time thinking he just needed a change of scenery.

After his first training camp and season, he showed very promising signs of how he can contribute, just couldn't do it consistently and also stay healthy.

Second season he didn't really fit and was injured or scratched most of the season. He was sent down for a bit in the AHL and scored 6 goals in 4 games. But came back up and did nothing really.

This season has mainly been in the AHL except for a 1 game call up. I was kind of shocked he was resigned. It possibly is a failure, but I applaud Blake for taking the swing with so many draft picks in the 2020 draft that at the time it felt like getting a ready prospect to put into the line up. I really like his game, but hes slow with the faster pace of the game today. Consistently has also been an issue. I think he goes back to Sweden at the end of the season.

Pretty fair assessment. I’d only add that some questioned his attitude before he came to LA but based on the reports I’ve seen he’s been a good soldier. He’s certainly embraced his role as a leader down in the AHL.

Everytime he was called up seemed he got injured, but also he never really impresses. Think he is a career AHLer. I do not blame his decline or not reaching potential on the coach though

I think JAD's reemergence this year is the nail in the coffin for Andersson at the NHL level in this organization. They play similar styles, and but JAD is a much better skater even if Andersson has better hands/vision down low. I think it was a good bet; he had flashes of outstanding chemistry with Vilardi. He just can't do it consistently in the NHL it seems.

It is more than iffy that he becomes a bottom 6 NHL'er at this point. I don't mind that the deal was done, especially given the logjam we have, and would have rolled the dice again, but it hasn't worked out and he has too many in front of him blocking him from the team.

In his defense though, I think he has played quite well in the AHL (always more than a PPG player...) and has shown some tools and flashes in the NHL that lend something to the argument that he should be on a roster, but nothing that stands out about him that screams he should be in the NHL or you'd be a fool not to play him.

Given the growth of the game and how few spots there are to fight over around the league, it is likely he ends up a tweener or career NHL'er. His chance in LA is pretty much done. He'd be a temporary injury call-up at most. Hopefully, he gets a shot elsewhere.

He just didn’t develop fast enough and other prospects passed him over. Although I think in the beginning, he wasn't given a lot of chances.

He's kind of like Frk. Just missing that extra dimension that rounds out his game where coaches are comfortable putting him out there for a regular shift. I imagine he'll ether leave NA or go up and down here for his career. He could make a living playing for teams starting rebuilds where they need capable warm bodies.

Thanks for the feedback, all. I always saw him as someone not mature and would return to Europe with some success. Just an awful pick for where he went. Luckily you got Vilardi later on. At best, I figured Andersson could be a Jesper Fast or Niklas Sundstrom type player. Instead, he is Brad Smyth.

Getting the pick for Will Cuylle worked out. He will surely have a better NHL career than Lias. At least you have the depth to absorb him not panning out.

Yep, I have no problem with the gamble, it seemed like they saw him that way as well, a good gritty depth guy, but for a variety of reasons discussed above, he just hasn't panned out (here).

Depends on how long he wants to stick in NA but I still think there's room for him in the NHL in the middle six of bad teams. The guy is absolutely ruthless within 15 feet of the net.
