I see him putting up PP points while basically standing still. We know he can do that already. Majority of his AHl points came in the same manner. He’s good around the net always has been.

We need to see him skating and making plays At a legit pro level. Something we know he can’t do

He doesn't really need to be a playmaker though.

If he can be a well rounded guy who can produce in the paint, work the walls and kill penalties as a middle six forward thats a massive win at this point. We don't have those guys either.

Pair him with a player (or players) who can handle the transition dirty work and his weaknesses become less apparent. Skating wasn't was was holding him back at the NHL level, there are plenty of guys who are slower than he is who have had good careers.

still aren't seeing any of that though in those goals...the points are nice for his confidence but he's not going to on our pp standing in that spot. that doesn't mean he isn't improving in those other areas too we just aren't seeing it in these clips yet.

Not impressed.

Show me clips of outworking opponents on the boards and outskating them in open ice.
Sadly, this. ^^^

I was pumped to see the news...

...then, I watched the clip, and it’s essentially a montage of piss poor coverage on the PK.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d rather he rack up the points than not, but I’m not seeing anything there that gives me a ton of confidence he’s ready to come over and contribute in any meaningful capacity. At least not yet.

which is why I’ve said since day one if he’s going to make it they need to move him to left wing and let him play in the paint

but no on the skating. He was out skated by 4th line ahlers. You don’t make the nhl if you can’t skate at a pro level. Just can’t and it’s hard to find guys that skate worse with the puck on their stick.

Nothing against Lias but I know he can score and make plays at the SHL level

Him playing as he has does nothing for me

I dont qualify that as communication. If thats the way it is then its best to move on. Not all relationships are meant to be.

it’s not looking good but i wouldn’t give up the kid and sell with his value so low.

I do not believe he will be Ranger property by the start of the next season. He's going to end up a throw-in on whatever deal the Rangers make.

That's just the reality at this point. Wish him well, and am rooting for him to succeed in the SHL. It's all about upping the trade value at this point and wishing the player well.

This basically is what it comes down to. Every Ranger fan should hope for him to tear it up in the SHL even if they can't stand him. Him doing well benefits the Rangers.

I would not be surprised if Seattle drafts him in June

I'd rather them take Howden, thanks

Just for the record, he is skating a bit better.

I can say this, there is a significant improvement of Lias play today compared to how he looked for Frölunda, without any single doubt. He did put up some pts for Frolunda but he was definitely a marginal contributor on average. Now he is one of the top 1-2 players on the ice most nights and really stands out. He makes plays with the puck, he skates with it, he is a physical factor and definitely a PITA to play against.

I hear you. My comment was a bit of tongue in cheek as I’m sure he wouldn’t be 1C in the SHL if he wasn’t effective in this role at least to some degrees.

This is actually good to hear. If I'm being honest, I haven't really been impressed with his production this year, but this is solely from watching highlight videos. A lot of his points have been on the powerplay, and he isn't really shown to be skating much in these clips. His passing has been really good, but that's always been a strong suit for him.

To me, it's a similar situation to Kravtsov: I know these kids can already play and produce in their respective leagues, but I want to see them being top skaters for their teams every night. I care more about them showing that they can always control the puck in a professional league and make the right plays with the puck. Getting 5v3 powerplay production is great, but there's more I want to see from them.

Maybe he does a 180, comes back here, turns into a good player, and we pay Seattle to take someone else.

is Lemieux gonna be available? There's a lot to be said for finding a young long term player who has that fan-favorite potential. I'm actually not sure what our projected exposure list is gonna look like ATM

Protected:
Panarin
Zibanejad
Kreider
Strome
Chytil
Buchnevich
Gauthier/Lemieux/Howden/Lias

We can protect one of the last 4. The other 3 would be exposed.

if re-signed, i will be totally fine if Strome is exposed, while Gauth/Lias/Lemieux protected instead,
It may be that Strome's greatest value to NYR is just continuity from '19-20 into '20-21
if claimed it relieves Cap pressure, and Gorton will figure out next steps
And you just never can reliably predict which 1 player expansion team will pick

This is an interesting approach. Makes sense as I think about it...

We can't let a guy who had as many points as Strome did walk out the door for nothing. What pieces do you get for Strome vs Gauthier or Digueseppe? Letting him walk for nothing would be terrible asset management, especially if thats the "plan", that should be a fireable offense. You either trade him or keep him
