btw Russia is still banned from major events so Russia players would be under the olympic flag representing themselves not as a country.

Just looking at team Canada, I think there's multiple ways to do the forward lines, but the top 9 and ROR should definitely be there barring any significant drop-off (Bergeron possibly the most likely?). I think Huberdeau has a good chance, but maybe isn't versatile enough to make a team with so many high end offensive players already. I can see him fighting with Hall, Scheifele, Couturier, Barzal, Tavares and possibly Dubois and Lafreniere. Personally I think Couturier should be on the team given any huge changes, but I'm not sure he will be. I really don't see Giroux making it or even being heavily considered. He was never really a fixture of team Canada when he was at his best even, and while he still drives play well, his skating has declined and his production tanked this year. His hands and smarts keep him a good player but I don’t think he belongs in a best on best anymore.

The defense is a pretty big crapshoot at this point. I think Pietrangelo, Makar, Rielly and Chabot seem likely. Hamilton probably should if he continues his play from before the broken leg, but he seems to have a negative reputation in the league. I doubt Ellis makes it. Theodore probably has a better chance. I can see Parayko making it as well since there's not a lot of defensive-minded options.

Price likely starts with Hart as the backup

Polak is also retired from national team

FTR.. you were pretty close and I'm not saying this to criticize you.

I'd suggest Necas, Zadina, Chytil, Zacha for forward replacements. Simek for a D replacement. Kempny is out all season with an Achilles.. not sure how he recovers.

I'd have Scheifele replace Giroux and maybe Barzal or Couturier replacing Stone or Marner. Also Hellebuyck needs to start for team USA.

No matter which way you slice it Canada is a wagon.

It'll be interesting to see how the defense shakes out between the old guard (Weber, Pietrangelo, Doughty) and the new guard (Makar, Chabot, Theodore, Rielly).

Russians D, ew
If Romanov gets enough experience, this is a very solid D lineup

Sergachev - Gavrikov
Orlov - Provorov
Romanov - Zaitsev

Zaitsev might be the only questionable guy, who knows maybe Nikita Nesterov raises from the dead in Calgary or Zadorov dominates in Chicago to take his spot

Marchand-Crosby-Bergeron
Stamkos-McDavid-Mackinnon
Huberdeau-Point-Scheifele
Couterier-O'Reilly-Stone

Don't think Marner or Hall make the cut, Canada has always favored 2 way play and centers over pure scoring wingers, the center options they have available are just too deep and are all versatile players.

Sergachev struggles in a top-4 role right now, having him on your top pairing against the worlds best a year from now would be horrendous. Russia's defense is a giant hole, they're going to rely massively on goaltending.

For the US:

Centers good: Eichel, Matthews and Larkin
Left Wings good: Tkachuks, Gaudreau, Connor
Defense good: Werenski, Jones, McAvoy, Slavin, Hughes, Carlson
Goalies good: Hellebyuck, Gibson

Right wings... after Kane and maybe Boeser, I'm starting to draw some blanks.
