Man what was Binnington doing on that Matthews goal? It looked like he wanted him to score.

And that last goal what a doozie. Thanks for the win, St Louis!

Good Richmond Hill boy and future Leaf. Cujo was always wild and erratic against us and look where that got him!

Don't you mean Holl :DD

Holl deserves his lumps for his play this season, but there is no denying that he has looked significantly better the last 10 or so games.

Muzzin, not so much.

Keep in mind that the Leafs are using Muzzin-Holl as more of a shutdown/pure defensive pairing this year than they have at any other point. They are still holding things up defensively (for the most part), but the lack of offense is hurting them and making it tougher to defend.

Matty just rolling along, a few weeks ago he looked like an underdog for winning another Rocket. It's not over by any means but he now has to be considered the favourite.

And Edmonton is struggling bad lately! You have to think Drai won't keep up his scoring pace

I think in the end it turned out to be a good win, because of the adversity in the third period and the way they attacked the situation. Also good to get a win where Campbell was a regular joe (sort of).

I mean it was a shit show in the defensive zone for most of that game, especially Brodie and Muzzin... boys were struggling! Nylander was soft as shit in front of the net. A few others were doing what they could but it wasn't pretty.

Generated tons of offence and chances all game. Could have been a couple more finishes but you cannot complain about a 6 goal night.

No one should be surprised by this. Early on Matthews was below his career shooting percentage and both Ovechkin and Draisaitl were significantly above it. I think this is the year Auston pulls ahead of the pack. The only thing that can stop him is injury

Covid. Pause. PPDs. Road trip. Beast opponents / career game by goalie. I don' think there's much to look into here. They'll be back to their 70-75% points percentage by next week (relative to start of trip).

It was a good fake by Marner behind the net

Officiating was, as Shaq would say, "horriawful." Needs to be acknowledged even though it didn't ultimately cost us the 2 points tonight.

hes scored at a 15g/35p pace since entering the league, he hasnt exactly priced himself out of the lineup as of yet.
and hes been treated very well here.
Somebody will throw a deal at him that the Leafs can’t match. Ottawa for example should give him a sweetheart deal. They’re getting Millstien guys like zub and Zaitsev and I saw someplace that they’re in the running for whoever the top KHL free agent is right now. He’d be perfect there, get top six minutes, will likely sacrifice a little bit of salary for term and get to eff over the Leafs on a regular basis.

1st unit PP didn't score a goal while Marner was out with Covid, and his first game back, the unit scores off a sick pass from Marner to score a key game-tying goal in the 3rd.

Let's draw wild conclusions!

:naughty::sarcasm:

To be fair, there is a group of us who doesn't want Marner off PP1, just want him to be playing down low in a passing position and not up high as a shooter. And look where he passed from for the goal tonight ;)

They are not playing perfect hockey yes..

You can't say anyrhing about the Arizona game. They were clearly the better team.

Defensive breakdowns happen every night to every team.

I get this is a forum to discuss all things that happen, but the Leafs did a lot more right today than they did wrong. On the road against a good team.

All in all, take this 4 games, plus the 4 game trip out west that is always tough and the Leafs are 6-1-1 on their two extended trips.

I have no issue with the way they're playing at the offensive end of the ice, but they've been really below average defensively of late.

Also, can we be intellectually honest at least? This was not a good Blues squad. They were missing...

Vladamir Tarasenko (7.5 million)
Pavel Buchnevich (5.8 million)
Colton Parayko (5.5 million)
Brayden Schenn (5.1 million)
David Perron (4.0 million)

When you're missing 34% of your salary cap and 5 of your top 8 players, you're a deeply depleted squad.

Ottawas a hard sell if he cares at all about life outside of hockey but also doesn’t care about winning

Lol you better re watch the game we we had a few breakdowns didn’t get a save it happens

Seems to me that we got 20 saves tonight, and probably, could have reasonably expected 2-3 more, which would ended in 5-6 to 2-3 type of game. A couple of those goals came directly from defensive breakdowns.

I don't disagree. The Leafs have not been at their best this trip. Yet they are 2-1-1.

When thwy were playing well they destroyed the Avs, and easily beat a depleted Vegas team.

They will win the vast majority of games if they control the play like they have the past two games, no matter how they break down defensively

Campbell just gave up 5 goals.

Strike now and sign him for $3.5m for 5 season’s!

:sarcasm:

I'm getting genuinely curious to see how he plays down the stretch in his first season carrying the load. Hopefully he doesn't fall off considerably. That would be a damn shame.

Marner looked great, Matthews looked great, Tavares was better than the last couple games. I thought we played pretty well tbh. The first goal was a complete breakdown. But STL second and third goal were off such flukey bounces. Binnington had a weird game, he sucked but he also made some big saves. I thought we deserved the win, but too many sloppy plays. Also f*** that giant they have on D, Mikkola ? or whatever his name is, god that guys annoying as f***. Doesn't even play hockey, interfering machine. Guys an absolute pylon.
