Ha ha! I think we all (should) know that the jury is still out on how good this team really is though, isn't it? I say, enjoy the regular season for what it is, a tune up for the real thing. I don't think there is anything wrong with having a positive attitude, its a great way to live. But it cannot come at the expense of reality... I was super critical of the team blowing the third period leads on the recent road trip... does it matter in the moment? Not really, but if we play like that in the playoffs we are done for. So while I love that the team is winning and there are tons of positives day in and day out, there is something to be said about winning the right way consistently... because those 'cheat' wins are far and few between once playoff time comes and that is what worries me.

Agreed. I'm not too worried about blowing leads recently TBH, it's a long season and there is bound to be some in consistent play here and there. The last dozen games or so, that's when I will be very worried if we see a lot of sloppy play as I'm pretty sure that the teams that are looking good going into the playoffs are usually the ones who play up to their potential when the real games start.

To be fair on this road trip they played the three favourites from the west, one being the last cup champ not named Tampa Bay.. I'm not condoning coughing up leads on the regular, but those are pros on the other team collecting a paycheque and are among the best in the league, if they didn't press and make those games close I would've been shocked.

I have not blocked anyone but I can see why some people want to. It works both ways with the negative and positive. I’m probably bunched in more with the negatives because earlier in the season I had my concerns and expressed them. I was wrong and can admit it.

You should still have concerns based on the past and should be able to express it without being bombarded about why you are wrong. Negativity is bad but shoving positivity down your throat and ignoring everything else can be just as bad.

not to nitpick, and I certainly don't follow everyone's conversations around here, but are there posters who actually go around trying to correct people for any criticism of the team, or do they just rebut the hottakes of parts of this elite team being untradeable trash, or a mediocre game or two being something unforgivable and dooming to the team's chances?

That is fair, and you cannot argue that they didn't deserve the leads they had. I think they have it in them to lock those down, it will just come down to will... I am still waiting to see this team sell out for the wins come playoff time.

By sell out I mean do whatever it takes. And to your point, I am not losing a ton of sleep when the doesn't do that in mid-Jan coming off a covid-induced hiatus.

pretty much agree all the way around. Come April they're just going to have to want it more than the other team when its closing time.
All we can do until then is enjoy the ride and hope to see good habits form in the meantime. I don't think a prior season's leaf team comes back saturday.

yeah there are some who will rebuttal any criticism that some posters say. Some are over the top like the Arizona game and I get why some people are saying relax it’s only a game.

I think right now the big concern is the Leafs current play and how it its starting to look like a bit of how they played in the playoffs. Is it concerning? Yeah it’s a little bit but it’s not panic time yet. There concerns are justified based on the past and If they continue to play like this.

Equally bad - I agree in principle. Those two "everything is awesome" dudes are more annoying because they just post so damn much, if the other guys posted the most then they'd be the most annoying. I may have to put the last guy on ignore, I had him on ignore before but then I happened to look here one day on my phone where I'm not logged in and I noticed that even though I have ignored him for ages, he still regularly quotes me and slags me which is annoying and I felt compelled to respond. Maybe it's not worth it though, it probably isn't. Sigh.

How do you know they post so much? Do all positive people annoy you or just them?
I'd rather be positive than suck the life out of a good thing by constantly harping on past failures.

LOL is this some sort of trick question?

I'm a positive person in general and despite past embarrassments, I'm optimistic about our chances this season. I'm also not "harping" on anything but when people start bragging about our team after multiple consecutive years of choking at the finish line, I find that cringeworthy and my reflex response is to throw a bit of reality at them.

I'm sorry that bothers you, I really am. If it really bothers you that much then I suggest you put me on ignore. Though I have to say I'm not sure why you're so upset - I post a lot of positive things about the team, do you just ignore those posts or what? I point out the good as well as the bad, is a balanced view so objectionable? Should we all be hopelessly biased homers and not discuss any of the teams weaknesses or shortcomings?

I guess this is the thing.

By "recent play" I assume you mean this 4 game roadie.

And on this 4 game roadie they've gone 2-1-1 (103pt pace), they've outscored, outshot, and out-xgf'd the opposition....and had their goalies put up an .881sv%.

Is it being "positive" at all, let alone "OVERLY positive", to look at that and not think it's something to worry about?

Are there people that are over reacting a bit over that 4 game stretch… yes. I’m not talking about those posters I’m talking about the posters who bring up that concern and do what you just did.

to no hero's ovation like the Canucks last year

I will continue to hold the opinion that the REAL reason for that entire display at the end of last season ("WE HAVE TO LET THE CANUCKS FINISH BEFORE THE PLAYOFFS START!") was to give Montreal enough time to get Carey Price back off injured reserve. Because if the North playoffs had started at the same time as the rest, Montreal would probably have had to play the first few games of that series using Jake Allen instead.

OMG Binner was pure trash .. wow he has dropped off face of NHL .. killer contract and CAP hit for blues .. but sometimes that's how it goes with tenders .. should be a prime example why Dubie is playing Soup perfectly
