Personally didn’t think Campbell was that bad. If not for Gibson no one would be talking about Campbell.
Rest of the team played very well. Defense was excellent for being short handed.
It's OK to admit he wasn't sharp (and hasn't been) over the past dozen games or so (3.00 GAA). I think he's been hiding a nagging injury - he's far more tentative now.

They should run with Mrazek for a few starts and let Jack heal up physically and more importantly, mentally.

Unfortunately wasn't able to watch this one, skimmed through this thread a bit and it seems as though the new lines looked good????

Didn't see a Post Game Thread anywhere, which is weird since there's a fair bit to talk about:

Complete domination but unable to score 5 on 5
This seems to happen to us a lot. As a positive sign, this happens to everyone, but top teams make teams pay on the PP, something we've failed to do the last couple seasons - tonight we did it.

Another 3-1 Blown Lead
Lucky first goal and late game tip to tie it. The real issue for me is that 2nd goal, up 3-1 PP is clicking, Keefe calls a timeout to give the big boys a chance to go 4 for 4 on the PP. Instead they stay out too long, no one comes off for a Dman, no one covers the Dman spot at least. Lazy and selfish play by our 4 big stars to give the Ducks a chance in this game - almost cost us 2 points.

Campbell with another shaky game
No bad goals tonight but he needs to find a way to make an extra save or 2 every game recently. Too many 2 or 3 goals on 10 shots lately.

Lily Hurt
Awkward fall, could be head or neck. Keefe's post game comments were encouraging, hopefully it's not serious.

Man, sometimes I wonder if I watched the same game as other people. I thought that one was about as dominant as any game they've played.
You did. Some people are just too focused finding something to complain about to see that.

Marner is a different player when he plays with JT. He moves his damn feet and creates. With Matthews he’ll watch a bit more and let Matthews do the heavy lifting. If those 3 lines work, that’s a complete mismatch for most teams.

Marners best playoffs was with JT as well. I hope they give those lines a long look. Even if they put Nylander back with Matthews leave Marner with JT. They feed so well off each other.

Ahh, I see - I have the OP on my ignore list. I didn't realize that would hide entire threads, worth it in this case though.

Edit: yes, I am talking to myself.

one of our more dominant games last night. This game was only close on the scoreboard. Pure and utter domination for 65 minutes.

I know we did not score at 5v5, but we controlled the entire game. I would like to see these line explored a bit further.

Soupy was fighting it all night. He wasn't finding loose pucks like he usually does. That first goal may have been an unlucky one for him, but that play doesn't unfold the way it does without him struggling to corral the rebound on the initial attempt at net. on goal 2, ya it was a 3 on 1, but if you look at the play once Carrick drops the puck to Silverberg, he drives towards Reilly with his stick in the air the entire way, and completely clogs the lane back door. It was a f***ing terrible execution of a 3 on 1 that they somehow scored on. Soup has to take the shooter there, Silverberg is not making that pass back door, Carrick took that away. Obviously it's easy for me to say in hindsight with video replay, and I can appreciate that Jack has to make that assessment in real time, but he has shown he can do that time and time again. We needed a big stop there, which it would have been, and we did not get one.

That said, that 3 on 1 just cannot happen at the end of an expiring penalty. Completely unacceptable from Marner on the wall to crash down towards net. just idiotic really.

I have complete faith in soup, but he's in his head right now. I think you let Petr face his old squad on Saturday, and you let Jack take 1 against the Devils in the B2B. Let him enjoy a well deserved All-Star weekend, and just let him get out of his head. We need him to be the Jack we've gotten used to the last 1.5 years. I have full confidence he will get back to that form, but he needs a mental break IMO.

great effort all around, thank god Gibson didn't spoil that. Because it really had Arizona/Vejmelka vibes all over it from start to finish

Yeah the way the ignore feature works here doesn’t make any sense. I don’t use it any more I just employ selective reading.

Agreed, I think Matthews-Nylander and Tavares-Marner are optimal pairings. Doesn't hurt to build on the chemistry Kerfoot and Nylander have had on the 'third line' for the moment. Might need to switch it up in the playoffs if the lines aren't working.

I'd run:
Bunting Matthews Nylander
Kerfoot Tavares Marner
Mikheyev Kampf Kase
Engvall Spezza Simmonds

The top line is essentially a rerun of Hyman-Matthews-Nylander. Could consider swapping the top two lw if it gets stale.

I'm fine with taking that group into the playoffs I think the upgrade needs to come on defence.

Agreed. Find a middle pairing vet D man and the d is in nice shape with Holl stabilizing after his rough start.

Yup. Optimal is the key word.

That third line will be all Swedish no Finnish. The box score showing the final score > moneypuck. These lines are not optimal for GF. Using possession stats is a waste to evaluate the new lines. Leafs are best team in xGF BEFORE the new lines. No shit they dominated possession last night  Has nothing to do with the new lines

*I mean if you take the best possession team, scramble the top 9 with your best possession guys on each line and keep their minutes the same, you're still going to remain the best possession team.

bunch of negative nancies ......this was probably the most dominant game the leafs played all year and it was entertaining for sure.
its sports , sometimes you come close to losing a game you dominate ........

hell we even got to see tavares and matthews out there together in the 3rd.

The goals against weren't really his fault, but he looked scrambley all nigh and that is saying something because the Leafs gave up almost nothing all night.

Ice was completely tilted in our favor all nite long .. if not for Gibson (a top 3 NHL tender right now) then it was a blowout game .. we had 3 lines completely dominating Ducks .. maybe Matty's line was weakest of bunch but Willy was in total domination beast mode - like I said 1 goal 1 assist and in control of that game .. Mitch played much better with JT and JT looked better too - what a surprise .. but Gibson was star of game for sure .. our defense I thought had pone of its better games .. yes a Rielly error leading to 3rd goal and a Sandin blow bye sure but both played well in their strengths puck movement out of our end.. what a dominating effort and 3 lines like I said made da difference .. good on you Keefer for trying out what you were saying all summer long

He doesn’t look as confident as he has in the past IMO. Not sure what’s going on, slight injury? Pressure of being #1?
Not overly concerned as yet.

Would you be confident in an undersized D missing Muzzin? Dubas needs to add somebody who can clear the front of the net. We have too many soft, undersized dmen IMO; worse when Muzzin is out.

I'm not concerned either, I think the covid pause disrupted his rhythm and that coupled with some bad luck has hurt his game a bit. I'd personally use this stretch to try and negotiate a cheaper deal.

Seems to be a common theme for many games. Better not see this come the playoffs.
We got Rask, Vasi and Bobbo in our division ToneDog .. we are all kidding ourselves .. we are gonna see great tending against us again .. put your $$$ down now we will .. that is why we need 3 strong lines which can all tilt da ice .. and we need a solid top 4 defense .. but Soup will be weakest tender in our division in playoffs .. Dubie beter get us another top 4 D man who is big strong and fast .. I like Jakob - I would give up Sandin and our 2023 1st rounder and even Robertson .. this is most important move Dubie will make before playoffs .. if Florida or Boston gets him we are in deep sh*t
