Maybe lost a bit amongst all the bigger discussion points from last night. Our special teams continue to really impress. Obviously we had no power plays last night which is ridiculous, but our pk came through big and even got another shortie at a really critical moment. #1 in pp, #4 in pk and only 1% back of #2, first in faceoffs, and first in shorthanded goals. This team has really rounded out in a way few give them credit for. Our new assistants deserve a ton of credit for the job they’ve done

This is the best case scenario at this point, IMO. It will bring his contract demands down to an affordable level.
I absolutely think he's still worth signing. He's not this bad.
Honestly, I'll be the first one to say Jack needs to be better. He's been largely awful for quite some time. It is currently a problem. But I really still have confidence in Jack. It seems like such a long time ago but Jack played about 50 games between last year and December 2021 where he was arguably our MVP. That is not a small sample size. It wasn't that he was just good in that stretch, he was outstanding. The only reason this bad run of play even started was nothing to do with Jack, and everything to do with our team's inability to play simple mistake free hockey. If you remember back to the game against COL in early January, Jack gave up 5 goals in an OT loss but was realistically the only reason we got a single point. That stretch of hockey to start 2022 was an absolute tire fire defensively for our entire group and Jack was largely left hung out to dry. This is where his confidence took a hit IMO.
He has yet to regain that confidence. Which is massively concerning no doubt. But I still believe in Jack's ability to be our guy. That may change in the next month or so if this continues, because at this point I feel like our defensive play is starting to return to form. If Jack cannot right his ship while the team around him has, we may need to address it.
But again, Jack has proven he can do it. We just need to let him work out the kinks. He is harder on himself than anyone of us on here could be. He knows he needs to be better, and I am confident he will be in short order.

Ugh. The only thing that he should have been saying is how embarrassing it was to give up that many goals after building should a big lead. Yeah, maybe throw in a nervous chuckle that he's just glad they got out of there alive but for anyone thinking this year's team was different (as in, a better chance to go deep in the playoffs), no, they're not.
On a less serious note, Jack's agent should disconnect his phone today in case Dubas calls looking for to negotiate a bargain contract extension for Soup.

I don't think Keefe is too unhappy with the players, I really don't think we gave Detroit too much. And he's called out the goaltending a lot recently, even for Campbell's stretch, that was bad, I am sure he doesn't want to pile on the guy too much.
Now 22 games played in 2022 and the PK remains break-even with 7 goals allowed and 7 SH goals. It's nuts how good they've been.

The goalie position is certainly up for grabs with this team, whether that will be Soup, Mraz or another goalie. Hopefully this lights a fire under their asses.
