Wasn't on the ice for either goal but yes the BS penalty call on him did result in a lucky PP goal for them.

And this is precisely why expected BS/60 stats are useless. Holl was the reason Tampa scored 2 goals and the expected BS/60 stats have him as some sort of defensive messiah. What a JOKE

The Sportsnet Broadcast noted that Tampa is making breakouts by long stretch passes up the middle of the ice and when they did that, they started dominating the play. That will be something the Leafs have to clean up and adjust to going forward.

Toronto's defenses is very good when it comes to neutral zone play but that's only if teams like Tampa break out by carrying it out.

It was effective in getting the puck in. We were shutting them down when they tried to get it in by carrying it.

The style only becomes a problem when you can't get to the puck first and can't make basic clears. Do that and you are fine. I feel like we did a great job getting to pucks first, and the defense/centers did a nice job shutting down those cycles. In fact, that was probably the one thing Matthews did well today. It was just the wingers were really struggling to win those board battles and do their part today in their own end. The bottom 6 wingers were much better than the top 6 wingers and it was no surprise that they were hemmed in less and were facing far fewer problems on those stretch passes than the top 6.

Every playoff game has a different story and depth scoring stepping up to help you win a game is one of them.

Marner and Matthews have produced through 3 games. Tavares and Nylander need to step up at least once in this series.

Sure hope JT is playing hurt because 1 SOG in a crucial playoff game is not enough from our erstwhile captain

Here is hoping this is a stepping stone type of win.

Leafs of old would have succumbed to Tampa tying the game and eventually winning it.

They didn't score any goals but anyone saying Matthews and especially Marner had a bad game need to stop score watching and pay attention to other parts of their games. Marner was flying all over and huge on the pk.

Especially for Mitch tonight. He was a beast and has been a beast this entire series. It must be like a force of habit reflex with some people.

I couldn't believe TO at the beginning of the 2nd period, nerves I guess, PP then 2 man advantage, I'm not sure TO even got a shot on net .

Lily out Holl in, senseless?

Engvall gets a lot of crap from people on forums, from the coach but whatever line he's on looks dynamic, normally he doesn't score or assist but the puck normally ends up in the opposition's end, Kampf is usually the player that gets the praise.

What an absolute crap 3rd period, TO won, yes, but I'd say 2 coaches are way overthinking the game. 1st Keefe takes Bunting off of the top line and puts Kerfoot there, what message does that send to the team, the players, well that says we're such a good defensive team that we're going to defend our way to victory which was similar to TB in game 2 where TO was coming back from a 5 to 1 deficit because TB stopped trying to score and tried to defend it's way to victory, TO picked up 2 goals in the 3rd because of that nonsense. Tonite TB owned the 3rd, as they should when Keefe decides they don't need to try own the puck, stupid.

TB's coach took the goalie out with 2:20 left, TO had been under siege thru the entire 3rd period, what a bonehead move, the only reason TO won.

I thought Brodie was particularly bad tonite, in the 3rd he wins a puck battle then passes the puck to a TB player in prime scoring position, Campbell was awesome as he was all night, Brodie had other equally stupid gaffes tonite.

Engvall/Kampf/Mikheyev is an excellent line, why does Keefe keep breaking it up, that line is gold and for TO to be successful it needs to be kept together.

man, engvall has 3 points this series.
will and JT have 1 assist combined lol

thats just funny.
good thing it's not all about points. If you want to rely on Engvall game tonight we are finished in 6.

He got destroyed in almost all areas and made weak one hand pokes at the puck all night. Empty net assists aren;t anything to look into moving forward to game 4

Jon Cooper will speak and completely kill me again lol

He almost seems in denial that his team could possibly ever lose or be outplayed.

Like legitimately.

we can only wish to be like that, coming off 2 Cups

hopefully one day soon
