Simmonds should absolutely be in the lineup for playoffs. Have to get him in there somehow.

Spezza's on-ice talents just aren't needed for this team. We have enough skill and offense. What the 4th line needs are a combination of Speed, Tenacity, and Toughness.

Once Knies comes in, a 4th line of..............Knies - Blackwell - Simmonds is an ideal 4th line to have.

Because I've played sports before, and understand how and why fights happen. Terry should have been ready and expected that. You clearly have not and do not.
Hockey, actually nhl hockey is the only professional sport aside from combat sports where you can throw punches at your opposition and then stay in the game. Your opinion is dated stupid and incorrect.

Hockey is also the only professional sport where you wear knives on your feet and are allowed to hit your opponent into the boards. Your response was contrived, pompous dogmatism and wanting.

FIGHTING IS PART OF THE GAME. If you want figure skating, why are you watching hockey?

Yawn. Easy to hide behind such garbage opinions. I played football as a lineman at a level higher than I imagine most here and played hockey.
Are you suggesting linemen are soft?

Not sure squatting into a three point stance 75 times, moving a total of 6 inches each squat, in 3 hours is considered "playing" a sport but you do you. I played end, safety, RB, QB and Wide out... do I win something?

It's such a bad look on some people here when they get all bent out of shape over either of these things happening:

a) a woman expresses a hockey opinion
b) a non-NHLer or non-former NHLer expresses a hockey opinion

Jennifer Botteril is both, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with the position she took on the broadcast. She is fully entitled to that opinion and the mere fact that Bieksa played in the NHL doesn't make his opinion any more valid here than hers.

It kinda does, there is something to be said for experience. Bieksa has actually lived the life of a NHLer, Jennifer has not. I'd tend to listen to the person who has actually experienced what they are commenting on vs someone who has an opinion with no correlating life experience.

You're in the woods, you have a broken arm, you got a Dr on the phone and Botteril there in person. The Dr is telling you how to stabilize the broken bone , Botteril is telling you how to do it but its is not consistent with the professional who has done this before. Who's advice do you take as the best course of action? Experience matters.

To suggest that people don't agree with Botteril because she is a woman is so needlessly manipulative. Believe it or not, there have been a few cases of a woman being wrong.

Her position's kind of canard that's allowed to stand - I guess - for discussion's sake. It's trotted too many times for my liking. More skill equals more entertainment. Fair enough. No one wants to see a hockey player who cant play hockey. True. Why make room for players who are strictly goons when actual talent languishes needlessly in the leagues below and abroad. Agreed.

But that's not her or other's actual premise. Their premise is that you can remove violence from hockey to make it a better game. And that's simply not true; You can't remove it's velocity and power. And because you can't you can't discount the necessary circularity of accidental impact and the emotions that rightly infer that sometimes the accident is no accident.

To your point about removing violence. There is no checking in women's hockey. Does any one honesty prefer women's hockey to mens? If you had a chance to watch the Leafs play in a championship game or the women's to play in Olympic gold, which do you pick?

Take out the cheap stuff, slew foot, hitting to the head, blind side hits. all that garbage. They took away players policing the game and the game is arguably, in some aspects, more dangerous today than it was 40 years ago.

Look at Jen Botterill's body language on this. It's worse than Jada Pinkett-Smith's after the GI Jane II joke. She's obviously extremely passionate about this. Kevin is like a fish out of water on that set with his opinion(s). It won't last there with him. Ron, Kelly and Jen looking at Kevin like he drives a truck.

Personally, I don't mind Jen's opinion. She's entitled to it. I even agree that the Beagle thing should never happen and should be punished. I also think it's fine to do something fine/suspension-wise with the pointless cross check, as well. All about bone jarring hits during the game but the after the whistle stuff needs to be handled better by the league.

Below, is a GIF and below that is a portion of the segment where Jen was visibly upset for Ron moving on without letting her continue ranting about her and "next gens" not wanting to see more tough guys, rather more Zegras and McDavids.

Good on him, when someone is talking out of their ass on a subject, they deserve to be cut off. Men do it to men all the time. Her reaction was unprofessional.

I had to rewatch to see why Hayes wanted at Bunting so badly. I couldn't see much, I think Bunting just has a face you want to punch. Hayes looked so mad, I was laughing. Hayes isn't too bright.

Knowing what a greasy rat bunting is, do you think he said something to Hayes about Hayes's brother?

2 goons fighting at center ice, for no reason is rediculous. But for the first time in a long time a Leaf responded in anger to punish another team for attempting to hurt a team mate.
A message sent, to Philly and others. We play hockey, but don't screw with us. We are a team!
I want a Cup. A couple of rights by Simmonds was the best sign we may be getting prepared to win in a long time. ( except maybe Nylander shot block).
Cup teams must show ability to punish cheap hits if they want to win.

I just rolled my eyes so hard one of my retinas detached.

Come on man, No f***ing chance. He might be a rat but he's not a complete piece of shit. If he had I'd expect hayes to have an insane reaction ala Bertuzzi v Moore or Mcsorley v Brashear. There's lines you don't cross and mocking a dead brother is probably one of them.

I agree those preplanned fights at center ice between two 3 minute a night players is stupid. Fighting to defend a buddy is honorable and mandatory to keep your man card.

I've heard worse, this is going back a few years, yelling between the benches, one guy was talking about a guys wife and how a dirty such and such she was, how half the guys on his team have ...... I heard one guy question another guys brothers sexuality. It gets pretty nasty down there on the ice. Bunting could have done something as simple as call Kevin, Jimmy. Like nice shot Jimmy. Some people have no filter between right and wrong.

I wouldn't do it, you wouldn't do it but man Bunting gets abnormal hate reactions, he has to say something extreme to get that kind of extreme reaction.

While I agree with your point… there is a code that tough guys have, once you’ve gotten a guy and he isn’t fighting back you should stop. Or you have to recognize who you are fighting. Beagle went over board and could have cause serious eye damage to Terry who was vulnerable. Imagine if Terry looses his eye, for nothing? It was just a bit stupid by Beagle. That deserves a 1 game suspension. I’m all for fighting, big hits and scrums. But with power comes responsibility and players have to exercise self control to avoid injury.

To mock someone's dead brother and a former player, to me, is far worse than saying something about someone's wife etc and Bunting would be deserving of a beating like terry got.
