Good game for the Leafs. They kept on the pressure and all the lines overall looked pretty solid. Matthews and Marner are dominating.

I hope this really is the year they figure it out in the playoffs. They could go a long way with those 2 playing like this.

we need tavares and nylander to get their act together

one linev teams dont have much success in the playoffs

tavares is looking slow and nylander is not engaging like he was at the first of the year

at the first of the year willy was playing like. 90
Point player. Now he is playing like the 60 point willy

I think it’s their turn to be in a bit of a funk.
Willy’s energy really picked up after he hit that post, looked much more dangerous the rest of the game.

youre right but its a long season and guys tend to get lazy during the year. they'll be good to go by the playoffs. hopefully.

A sleepy game where real talent shows and blocked shots, d toughness and goaltending were not needed. Thanks Kraken, we needed this. Great special teams.

True but I think they can get going again and if not there's enough talent to switch some lines around without touching line 1.

Another two points for Matthews and three for Marner. Matthews slowly clawing his way in to the scoring race and same with Marner ironically.
Bunting leading all rookies in Goals and just 7 points out of the rookie scoring race. He also has a handful of games in Hand.

Remember when we first got Tavares and it was Tavares, Mitch, Willy, Matthews all on the powerplay? I was waiting for the best powerplay in the league to develop right away. It didn't happen......at least, not right away. It took a few years. There's a life lesson in there. Good things will come.....in time. :naughty:

Actually Babcock didn't put them all together.

The 4 of them played only 4:34 in total 5v4 PP ice time together in 105gms under Babcock.

So many predictions that Seattle would "goalie" us, and yet... 6 goals on 25 shots.

Gee, I guess Seattle missed the memo on how to easily beat the Leafs.

Also what was going on with that ice in the 3rd? Horrible.

Kraken are an AHL team who would not even win in A .. too many giveaways in our own end by Holl and Sandin for my liking .. JT is struggling to skate .. overall hard to read anything overall into a game played against an AHL team as guys tend to take night off as a rest .. stats mean nothing .. but we got 2 points and that's all that matters

I wonder how the Kraken have so many more points than a team we should be copying (Habs) because of their amazing defensemen?

Either these guys were hung titty last night after Superbowl sunday, or the ice was like the surface of the moon. I have never seen so many NHL players lose an edge in 1 game. It was f***ing wild.

Who said we should be copying the Habs? We don't need to copy teams, we need to beat teams in the playoffs.

Yet they played the Canes once this year and won, they played the panthers twice and won both. In the NHL anything can happen in a handful of games. It is why I'm amazed people put so much importance in a single playoff series where anything can happen.

At the beginning of the year, we had posters advocating for building the team like Montreal - with Edmunstons and Chiarots.....because they were big, and were blinded when Montreal got hot at the right moment.

Completely ignoring one was playing with Weber, and the other with Petry.

They aren't going to help win in the playoffs is my point.

The point of my post is the exact same as yours - don't copy other teams.

Easy win against a bad team. Good on the boys for showing up last night and dominating the way they should.

An AHL team?

They've beaten Florida twice (combined 9-4 score), the Wild, the Caps, the Canes and the Pens.

You don't need to try diminish a great win against a team other elite teams have failed to beat, especially considering we deserved a good result after getting unlucky the past two games.

this guy not directly saying it.
Tho looks like he's not around anymore, probably started a new account. lol

Oh that guy. LOL, OK. I almost miss his nonsense, it was so over the top ridiculous that it was amusing comic relief.

Wow people were really saying that? Hmm, OK then. Mind you there is something to be said for building from the net out and MTL with Price, then Weber ... but then again, there's only so many Price's to go around so yeah, do the best with what you got, don't copy other teams and don't think there is only one way to build a winner. Agreed.

There are no easy games in the NHL but yeah, they are one of the weaker teams and losing would have sucked so good for them for winning.

I think people should be able to change their opinions on things. I was wrong on stuff I said at the beginning of the year. We shouldn’t hold that against people or at least see if their opinion changed.

Agreed. I have no issue with people being wrong and changing their minds - I have been wrong too.

Yet some have doubled down still wanting to pay a healthy price, and that's what I found bizarre.

I thought Tavares looked decent, he's been generating good chances the last few games just not converting. He set up Matthews the other night as well. They're still just 1 point under ppg, they'll get going soon. You keep playing the right way it's just a matter of time til the numbers correct themselves.

Nylander has looked like he slowed down, it's like him and Marner switched bodies or something.

Yeah sometime today's right is tomorrow's wrong too. I always find it amusing when people say stuff like "but you were saying this guy sucked before" - maybe the guy did suck before, that doesn't mean you have to stay with the opinion that the guy sucks when he starts playing better. But yeah some people just keep doubling down as if player evaluations are set in stone.

This team could still benefit from having a Chiarot or Edmundson to make hard stops in the defensive end and allow the more skilled D partner to make a quick transition. Their value would be more obvious after a game with a team against a lot of heavies like the Rangers, as opposed to a team like Seattle which is built fairly small up front. Not all roster moves need to be a referendum on hockey philosophy. Sometimes you just need a big player to protect certain situations out of your control.
