This team does not miss marmer at all. It’s hard not to watch an imagine how much better this team would be with his cap space spread out on a top 6 winger to replace him and the rest on a dman to replace holl. It’s just going to be way to hard to win anything meaningful with his cap hit being as bad it is. Truly one of the worst contracts in the nhl and it absolutely sucks having it on this team

Does anyone have some info on which teams give up the most odd man rushes? We must be at the top, or near the top, on giving up the most.

Marner really is sorely missed. Everything just seems out of sync when he’s not in the lineup.
Why wouldn’t he be missed? I mean we missed 34 when he was out, 94, heck we miss Spezz quite a bit too. What I find interesting, we may miss him as much defensively as we do creatively, which probably bodes well for the team when he comes back.

Just about sums up the fan base eh ahah. I feel like the team looks different without Marner in a bad way personally. And to a lesser extent Spezz and sandin.

To be honest I wouldn't mind seeing Rubins in over Holl when sandin is back. My 2 c.

Let’s hope the Leafs don’t give life to the Oilers on Tuesday. Let’s not be their jump start wagon they are desperately seeking.

While I tend to agree with you, how do they fit him in under the cap

Scott Mayfield makes $1.45 million. If we are somehow able to flip one of Engvall, Dermott, Holl we can make the salaries work. Additionally we would only take on the remaining salary that he has left till the end of the year. So if we get him at the trade deadline, it’s a prorated salary we take on. Not the full 1.45 million, so it’s workable.

Listen I may have been wrong about Liljegren before, he’s a player. But he’s not a top 4 dman right now and if we have to depend on him to play top 4 minutes for us down the stretch and in the playoffs I can’t see us making it far because that means our 3rd pairing has become weaker. Mayfield is exactly the type of guy we need. Physical, but smart, can skate and also move the puck up ice. Not to mention he can shoot from the point. PLUS he comes with another year on his deal.

Muz and Holl are slower so if they make a mistake, they are not catching up

for sure, I don’t think they give up as many odd man rushes though because they normally start in the d zone. Where as Rielly and Brodie normally get offensive zone starts. So naturally they would give up more odd man chances bc they are more likely to turn it over in the offensive zone since they spend more time in there but both are so good at getting back and taking away the pass or the shot

was hoping it'd be more like

LMAO

For all we know the inside of the black hole does look like that...until you get turned into spaghetti the deeper you proceed in.

I feel like it's a metaphor for being a Leafs fan. Those from the outside (other fanbases) never really see the horror that takes place within (Leafs fan) but those inside can never truly get out.

The Leafs are not anywhere near the top. They are a very good defensive team.

One of them is a fan, the other just posts negative posts after negative post and really likes to whine about Marner.

It’s almost like there’s a word for that sort of behaviour..

Just my opinion,no sources...

The crew doesn't like beaver...Not at all....

IS it a team breaker....

IMHO, YES..

Toleration was there, but now,,,,imho, its hate...

No way you beat anyone in the playoffs with the mutt on the jeff, so to speak, again, all in my opinion.

Oh and can someone post a gif of nylander and beaver sharing a hug or a fist thrust...

No didn't think so... Sure now some doon will dig something up out of the archives to counteract the tumour that is the playoff killer..

All of course guvner, imho...

Just how drunk were you when you wrote this? What does it even mean?

Mayfield is currently their second best defenceman (third when Pulock gets back), and for only $1.45M.

Why would they trade him for a worse defenceman earning more, or, even dumber, weaken their already crappy D to get another mediocre forward?

I agree he would help us, but I don't see them giving him away for so little.

Leafs looking very sloppy and careless lately

not the same tight defence they were showing on their game winning streak.

they barely held on to an inferior opponent again same as the game against the Blue Jackets.

Tampa Bay exposed them

Simmons looking slow and ineffective last night

obviously we have to pay a premium and that's a good question. He's on the block, NYI has a few guys pushing from Bridgeport, so I think it's just they believe they can get a few quality assets. I'd be willing to move our first for him, anythung to go for it.

A win is a win, but that should have never been the final score.

Yeah there's injuries, but they just can't have lapses like they did.

Mrazek seems a little shaky. Needs to be better. Also cover the puck/try not to let those long rebounds occur. I sort of thought he was lucky a few times based on the puck defelcting out of bounds. Otherwise the CHI might have come back in that game.

Oil well.

Onwards and upwards.

Hopefully

I actually thought we had really cut down on that over the last two years, but it seems like we’re having more breakdowns of late.

We've looked pretty terrible the last couple weeks, no doubt about it. Feels like it's more than just missing a few injured guys too but time will tell I guess. No need to panic, not sure anyone expected to just roll through the entire schedule winning almost every game so no big surprise that we're now in a period where we don't look sharp. And LOL at anyone who doesn't think Marner being about doesn't hurt the team, sure his contract sucks but he's a very good hockey player.

We all want a playoff run and as I've been saying for about 4 years now, this team will be judged mostly on how they play in the playoffs so no need to get too high when we're on a roll, or get too low when we're playing poorly. The playoffs are a new season, we'll see what happens then.
