I like the Giroux signing.
A ridiculous number of commentators were hyping Chariot before he was traded, and praised Fla after.
Of course, commentators are idiots.

I'm not sure I even love the giroux add. He's been a ~60pt winger the last few years even while getting full 1st line and top PP minutes. He's old and slow. He's never been a playoffs performer.

I'm pretty sure Giordano is a better old man add than Giroux is.

As for Chiarot.....lol. That's a downgrade not an upgrade. I wouldn't want him on our bottom pairing.

No, I mean without marner setting up 3 goals that Tavares and Mikheyev scored, how was the Tavares line?

I know Nylander wasn't on the line, but how did the revamped Tavares line do? There can't be credit for the goals as they were all marner setups.

Tavares led the Leafs forwards in TOI at even strength and posted a 70+xgf%.

What was odd was Marner had just taken a SH shift, so Keefe tossed Nylander out with Matthews in his spot on that line and Nylander immediately cause a turnover in his own zone near his net that resulted in a Florida goal.

The Tavares line without Nylander was more engaged in the play as it was one of JT better games in a while. They didn't produce 5v5 but they had their moments and Tavares and Gudas seemed to be engaged in physical play on many shifts.

It was a good win last night but I have 1 question.
the Panthers outshot the Leafs 32-23 and Mrazek was very good last night.
we then beat them 5-2 with only 23 shots so does that mean that Florida dominated us but got Goalie’d or is that only a thing when the Leafs lose

Shots were actually pretty even except Florida added a bunch due to one extra PP and then playing 4 minutes with the goalie pulled.

5v5 shots

TOR 20 - FLA 22

5v4 shots (FLA with 6:00toi, TOR with 2:03)

TOR 4 - FLA 8

With Goalie Pulled

TOR 1 - FLA 6

And more importantly the Leafs had 59xgf% at 5v5.

Yeah he and Simmonds are done.
That line had a real tough time last night. Always seemed like they were out at the wrong time.

Lately, any time they’re out there is the wrong time. Maybe some combination of load management and hiding them on another line apart from one another would help. But generally lesson learned is you can’t rely on high mileage players to give you big energy line impact. They need to get more out of Blackwell though. He looks like a live one.

Personally, I think Florida is overrated.
Not taking away from a Great game by the Buds,

You wonder where the Leafs would be if the refs aren't bias and give the Leafs as many powerplays as they give the Panthers all season.

JT's line did very little 5 on 5 , no improvement without Willie . JT played no different last night than he has , he just scored a couple tap ins created by Mitch on the pp .

I know I watched the entire game and was totally pleased with the effort and result…….ok maybe not so much with Willy

Those were not taps in. First one he took the Marner rebound and stick handled around Knight and the second was a nice deflection. Both from dirty areas that many Leafs refuse to go to. No other Leaf battled harder than JT last night. Good sign going forward.

Yup……no complaints from me……just bored this morning so I thought I would ask the goalie’d question

We just played an elite contender that had all of Gudas Chiarot Montour and Hagg on their blueline.

Meanwhile, the no-D Leafs are wondering if rookie sensations Sandin and Lilly can even make our defense.

Amazing.

I like Florida's team but we would be the laughing stock of the NHL with that blue line. Even with Ekblad there. Hell, people still poke fun at ours.
