Incorrect. Lyubushkin should be moved off of Rielly’s pairing, but should be in the lineup.

keefe has failed to optimize the defensive lineup properly

Giordano - Holl have worked well together. Muzzin - Brodie have worked well together. The main thing that made Lyubushkin somewhat attractive in the regular season was his ability to play with Rielly better than Holl did, but if you take that away, then he doesn't deserve to be in this lineup. He is not guy you go out of your way to force him into a lineup. He is a mediocre #6 at best on this roster, and realistically he is a #7.

Liljegren should have taken his spot beside Rielly. That is where Keefe failed to optimize the lineup. Moving Lyubushkin down doesn't stop the fact that Lyubushkin has been even worse away from Rielly as he has been with Rielly in these playoffs, and he has been really bad with Rielly.

here is the official definition

1. a triangular staysail set forward of the forwardmost mast.
2. the projecting arm of a crane.

the slang definition
1.The mouth, sometimes particularly the tongue, underlip, or tooth.

Thanks!

i was going for the simpsons reference though aha

Boosh brings tools to the playoffs we desperately need , Holl doesn’t play bottom 6 min and situations and he brings no other tools other than length and minutes.

I'm no big Justin Holl fan, but he was a key cog in the penalty kill all season long and the logic of inserting him the game after our PK got dummied by Tampa was very very sound. I'm not sure what the answer is tbh. I think there's clear value in having Holl in the lineup. Same as Boosh (though ideally in a lessened role) and Liljegren I think 5 on 5 offers more than either.

But you can't carry all 3 without dropping to 11F and that seems like a dicey choice to make given the possibility of continuous OT or if a player were to be lost to injury up front.

We're getting out coached again.
Out coached in a strange way though , by literally out smarting yourself , the constant change everywhere is staggering .
No continuity and I will offer this , players usually like stability with lines and pairings , it’s worth nullifying a mistake here and there which impacts playoff series

To be fair we won without Clifford. All he did was take a 5 min major and get suspended, so I don't wanna pretend he is some difference maker. Simmonds as well, pretty much threw the last game he played. yeah he's physical, but when you're sitting in the box for half your shifts what the hell is even the point ?

Yeah Simmonds played less than 6 minutes in game 2 and took 2 penalties and had no other impact on the game that could be even slightly construed as positive. He played his way out of the series at that moment.

He brings a tool and it is definitely not something we desperately need, especially at the expense of things like defensive ability.

You would have thought how well the Leafs played in game #1 that re-inserting Liljegren would be obvious and having home ice and last change and matching possibility.

However since the media called out Keefe for playing Holl his worst Dman after the last game, you just know that defiantly he will go against the grain, not letting anyone tell him how to do his job.

If Holl is played and it costs the Leafs this game, then the name Barry Trotz should start circulating as his replacement, should the Leafs lose in round #1. IMO
100% agree with this post. If this decision costs the Leafs the series Keefe needs to be gone. Regular season success is cool, losing in the 1st round every year because of bad coaching decisions and inability to adjust is not cool.

Your up 2-0 why would you change the lineup ? Simmons & Clifford should both play.A friend of mine knows Maroon and he was so happy that Clifford & Simmons have not been dressing. What does that tell you ? Bring Paul Higgins out of retirement and put him at center on the 4th line. I bet maybe 5% of people know who Paul Higgins was.

We were never up 2-0?

You just referenced a player that hasn't played since 1983. We're in 2022. He played 25 NHL games and 1 playoff game.

Thanks Simmons. Because he had to ask his question in the most asshole way possible Keefe is keeping Holl in to prove a point. Stupid rat faced motherf***er.

One shift doesn't make a game... Or does it for you?
The opening shift that you absolutely get buried in, allow the 1st goal and set the tone for the rest of the game does kinda make a game. We were stuck chasing after that point. The team that has scored 1st has won every single game this series, you have to play a lot different when you're chasing the game.

He's saying the whole game, they were good. He probably understands that the first shift sucked where everyone on the ice made a mistake, Holl included. You're micro analyzing one shift to justify your reasoning why Holl sucks and just completely forget the other shifts.

Every player makes mistakes. Hedman made a lot of them too.

Sheldon himself obviously thinks Holl is our worst dman, thus not playing a part in the first two games.

I am going to choose to support the lineup that's out there tonight. No reason to think Holl cannot give us a good game. Our PK has been way better since he got into the lineup.

I am not going to waste my energy stewing over Holl Vs. Lilly or Spezza vs. Cliff/Simmer. At the end of the day those are tertiary pieces to this machine. We need our big boys and Jack to step up tonight. If that happens, we have a good shot at winning this game.

Be hungry on pucks, win your shifts, start on time, and don't let off the gas. I genuinely believe this is a must win IMO. I really don't think we have the stones to win game 6 & 7 B2B. We need to come out swinging here.
