Leafs vs. Ducks

Story Line: The ducks have been flying high recently. They have started off the season 7-1-0.It is also the return of Randy Carlyle playing against his former team. Meanwhile the Leafs have hit a bit of a rough patch; losing their last two games, and not even accumulating enough shots to get a high school freshman drunk.

It is here that our Leafs face their next big test. Weakened by injuries and suspensions to some of their main core, the enlist the help of some helpful do-gooders

Under the watchful eye of Coach Carlyle, the Duck Dynasty folks put them through the ringer. All of their skills were put to the test.

the only reason Bernier would be starting after some average performances is Reims is still not feeling 100% imo

^ I hope that is the case.

Expecting a loss, hoping for a win.

I follow Ducks, I follow Leafs; and there is a huge difference in how both teams are playing.

Going to the game tonight, really hoping the boys show up. I'd love to see Bernier start, as I've watched Reimer live before, but hopefully Randy just has someone in mind that he thinks will give us the best chance to win.

Just like I feared, Reimer was never really going to get a chance at the #1 gig.

Bernier has been mediocre to poor his last 3 outings (.898sv%) after being lights out his first 3 starts (.970), has lost two games in a row, and Anaheim is red hot and you know Carlyle really wants to win this one in particular.....and Bernier gets the start anyways.

too bad.

Carlyle = Accountability :sarcasm:

I am hoping that Bernier is getting the start strictly because they want to give enough time to Reimer to recover.

I don't care who's in net, the team itself has to step up if we want a chance of winning this thing.

Will be a tough game though. Hopefully the last couple losses have woken this group up and they will actually play like they give a damn.

I'm going to assume that the Leafs haven't been totally honest about Reimer's injury and they're just giving him time to recover, because Bernier hasn't been the best for a few games now and Reimer's last start was a 4-1 W. Otherwise, it doesn't make sense to go back to Bernier.

Reimer is probably still hurt is what I'm guessing.

You also have to factor that Bernier is 3-1-1 against the Ducks. Obviously it's with a completely different team, but he's seen them a lot more than Reimer.

It's definitely the time for Bernier to make a statement though. He looked really good against the Hawks but that 2nd goal was definitely a weak one.

And the players infront of him have been piss poor the last 2/3 games.

This here is a battle between the biggest Corsi/Fenwick overachievers in the league. Ducks rank 21st and Leafs 29th in Fenwick Close, but both are at the top of the standings anyways (like they were last year).

The ducks are a team after my heart - I love the way they're built. This is not the big tough Carlyle Ducks anymore. This is a team that has jettisoned pretty much all of its "checkers", and has gone with speed and skill right through their lineup. After their elite top line, they have 3 other lines with legit 2nd line scoring potential, and they'll come at us in waves. The injuries to Sbisa and Souray have actually helped the team, as they've been replaced by two great skating kids in Lindholm and Vatanan. The only "checkers" on the defense corps are Lovejoy and Allen....and even they are good skaters and puck movers, and not just grunts. Penner's injury last game has opened a spot for their goon Maroon to get on the 4th line, though, so there is one pure mucker in the lineup tonight, at least.

My best guess at the lines and pairings.

Since we're past the 1/10th point of the year, I've decided to drop the 3rd year and just go with 2yr stats (including this year) now. I'll be going with just this year soon enough.

Conspiracy! :scared:

I think it's a combination of Bernier 'knowing' the Ducks better and Reimer not being 100%

Don't think they lost 3 consecutive all of last season, eh?

They lost 5 in a row in March, two were in shootouts.

They didn't lose 3 in a row in regulation though.
