GDT: Leafs Vs Canes

I dunno, the guy getting outplayed as a backup by Hutch didnt look like Andersen from this year did he.

Obviously something was seriously messed up with him. I'm still giving him the benefit of the doubt that he didnt classlessly flat out quit on the team though.

Yeah Cujo had that edge. As many have said, goalies are voodoo, you never really know what you're getting outside of the top handful in the game, and even they are capable of stinkers.

Having said that I'd be alot more comfortable heading into the playoffs with prime Cujo ;-)

Yeah! He had something special in him .. I have never felt that same spark in another goalie. Like Roy for an example - he was almost always rock-solid. Cujo .. just like unlocked something hidden deep in him.

I mean, even Evason got a nomination last season after a super small sample size of success. The reason Keefe isn't getting recognition is that no one is pushing for him in sports media. Goaltending could even out and the Leafs could win the president's trophy and go on a great playoff run and he still wouldn't get recognition IMO.

I mean, Scotty Bowman coached arguably the most talented teams ever and he still managed to get treated like coaching Jesus right? I didnt hear anyone say having Yzerman/Federov/Lidstrom or Jagr/Lemeuix/Coffey or Lafleur/Robinson/Shutt made him somehow not eligible.

Very true, dude! I like Keefe .. but I think that everything goes back to that "scandal" in his youth. They even said nobody else was going to give him a chance in the NHL - if it wasnt for Dubas. I read all about it, but I honestly forgot - what he did as a player that everyone was so scandalized about ... I didnt think it was a big deal, but he still seems to be paying the price, unfortunately.

The stat for me that is most representative as why it was time for a change was him being 0 for 8 in series clinching games. As I see it the team probably lost faith in him, certainly the.fans did.

Though it's a team wide issue and he's not alone, Campbell is already 0-3 in series clinching situations.

Yea, I re-read the whole story recently and it is pretty messed up.

That's a lifetime away from the current Keefe but people have long memories....

Especially in the old-buddy club. Like people were scandalized a guy was pretending to be an eagle and another player's stick caught fire... :D

He was brutal yes if we're just going by yes brutal / no brutal. I don't think it was as simple as him being brutal though. He was injured and seems like the whole pandemic life got to him mentally as well....but I'm not sure how he was supposed to play through those injuries. Leafs were much better than all the teams in the North, but that division had a lot of talented scorers that could light up a goalie playing in his condition.

Even you can agree his numbers would be vezina worthy on this years Leafs team which does support last year was indeed injuries + some pandemic blues and he wasn't washed. Carolina is actually a bit overrated 5v5 defensively so Fred isn't being carried either.

Injured with an injury the best and most extensive medical team in the league couldn’t diagnose? The only thing injured with Freddie last year was his feelings when jack went on a run and took the net from paper tiger Fred

Laughable. If he had an actual injury the team would’ve found it. Did you watch the all or nothing series? Dubas shanny and Sheldon were as in the dark about the root of the situation as we were

So according to a lot of people on this board the GM built a terrible team, but the coach doesn't deserve to be a finalist for this award even though they are having a great season?

It is also funny that those same people usually say the coach is terrible too.

Crappy Mrazek managed a 2.48 in 92 games with the defensively inferior Carolina Hurricanes. Can't be that bad, no?
 
Why do people ignore Carolina is a much easier market to play in than Toronto?

Keefe is on record multiple times discussing Andersens progression with team doctors. He missed 20+ games because of the injury. I'm a bit confused with what your issue with the injury stuff is? You don't buy any of it is what you mean ?

I didn't watch no. I didn't have the heart to after the playoff loss. Needed to mourn in peace
