What is the biggest difference between this year and last for the Flames? Markstrom has gotten back to the elite, consistent level he showed before signing with the Flames. Guy has 9 shutouts already, it's insane.

Season Tm GP GS W L GA SA SV SV% GAA SO
2020-21 CGY 43 43 22 19 111 1161 1050 .904 2.66 3
2021-22 CGY 47 47 29 11 97 1333 1236 .927 2.09 9

Flames are just better across the board than last year. Coaching has made a huge difference.

5v5 they've gone from good (#8 53.4xgf%) last year to elite this year (#1 56.5xgf%).

on the PP they've gone from mediocre/poor (#19 6.65gf/60, #18 6.56xgf/60) last year to good this year (#10 8.62gf/60, #6 8.57xgf/60).

on the PK they've gone from good (#10 6.26xga/60) to elite (#2 5.28xga/60).

and yes they've also gone from bad goaltending (#25 89.77) to excellent goaltending (#3 91.57).

Just improved right across the board.

Should be light work for new goalie. Won't know if good until he can stop the Sabres from scoring 5 times. Circle April 12th

It doesn't hurt to be put into any easy division.

What Freddy seems to be implying when Babcock was his coach, and Lou Lam who brought him to Toronto when things were going well, but post management change the last few years wasn't so great for him.

Who knows what he is referring to exactly. But the fanbase certainly was pretty hard on him, when he didn't close out playoff series, and let in stinker goals.

It's pretty normal for a player to not "enjoy" a period of time when their game completely fell apart and they played like hot garbage. This just sounds like Andersen still struggles with taking responsibility for his level of play. Glad we moved on from him.

Just came across this. Keefe doesn't get 1 lick of respect for how he's managed the horrible shitshow of goaltending issues/defense and still keeping the Leafs in a top-5 spot. Seems like he never will either. Gallant being nominated is hilarious. Shersterkin might win him that trophy single handedly.

Although I do agree Keefe doesn't get enough respect leaguewide and even internally, there is no way IMO that Daryl Sutter doesn't win this award. He's just transformed that entire team

If we win tonight, I predict we play Tampa first round.
If we lose tonight, I predict we play the Canes.

Andersen had a pretty solid SV% against CBJ; it wasn't his fault that the 50% of the cap did not show up to score goals

Andersen played pretty well most of that series, but had a habit of poorer play in elimination games. I mean we could talk about his 0.905 save percentage, and letting in that soft goal, but in the end... when we score nothing, it doesn't matter.

thats precisely the point. Offense has to show up. Even against the habs matthews and marner were kept to the outside most of the series. If Nylander wasnt scoring habs could have easily embarassed the Leafs badly

Yes.. Losing to the Habs sucked. Tavares out, and Matthews being rendered useless with a wrist injury that resulted in surgery, pretty much saw to that. Had Matthews not had that wrist injury, and shot at his normal shooting percentage, we would have had something like 5-6 more goals, Marner likely would have had the same in assists, and we wouldn't be complaining about them. Likely we are on to round 2, Tavares comes back... and well... But, we didn't, so...

I wish THAT Nylander would show up again, some time soon though. We really could use him.

Since Feb 17th the Canes have 0.792 P%. That is the best in the league. They have the best GA/G as well. Leafs by comparison have 0.57 P%

Leafs are underdogs going into this game.
