Dude....why would the Leafs continue this strategy if they add Chych to the lineup is what I'm saying. He adds a dynamic we currently lack. They can continue their current strategy....PLUS do more. This isn't difficult. We become harder to defend and can run more plays if we add him.

If you want to debate the viability of the strategy I'm open to a conversation. I think it's telling that the best teams in the league (apart from Toronto) are generally closer to the top of the list than the bottom. However, that is besides the point. The Leafs philosophy is to pass up low percentage looks for higher percentage looks. That doesn't mean they wouldn't try to have Chychrun attack as a trailer in the slot ala Rielly, but his total number of shots would suffer because they want their forwards taking the majority of their shots.

Leafs aren't changing their system or even a part of it for one player.
Nobody said they have to. All I said is "Adding a dynamic they currently don't have". You don't want goals generated from the point in the playoffs?

If we add Ovechkin to PP1 in place of Marner, Leafs will keep slap passing it from there because they don't want to touch their overall strategy? I don't understand.

There's an interesting debate to be had here though tbh - there may be certain types of blueline shots (and/or there may be effects of blueline threats on defensed) that get underrated by xgf models.

Exactly

Red hot 7-2-1 blues vs the struggling 6-3-1 Leafs, eh Mess?
I would feel better is the majority of those Leaf wins were recent instead of a month and a half ago.
Hockey fortunes and success changes rapidly that’s why most times simple stats are not relevant unless the pay are more current.
Having said that I am expecting a win tonight

why would they change their strategy to generate more point shots? Point shots are the worst form of offense, and are more likely to lead to an odd man rush against than a goal
.....when Jakob is on, they add the option to shoot from the point and the defending team has to also respect it. Why would they just ignore the shot they just added to the team? I'm not saying theyll run the O through jakob.

I honestly didn't realize how deep the Blues are up front (when healthy)

O'Rielly, Kyrou, Barbashev, Thomas, Saad, Tarasenko, Buch, Schenn, Perron

That's really good wtf. No upper tier superstar but lots of guys playing extremely well.

thats how Army works... no BIG contracts.. spread the love around.. allows for better talent on 'lower' lines, which tends to be better than other teams' lower lines

I was surprised Sandin sat over Dermott last game. Thought there might be a cap reason.
Honestly neither should be out, they've been great together as the bottom pair.

Just wish all three of Liljegren/Sandin/Dermott could get a decent run in the lineup together. While Holl is out we get to see what that looks like.

He did, but Marner is still really valuable to the club

Like others have said, I'd be interested in seeing Mitch away from Matthews and maybe on the 2nd line. It would be a good experiment to try during the regular season to see how it works

You mean like the whole season Marner played on the Tavarus like?

What the hell is the purpose of Regional games? Why are so many games blacked out?

I understood when the NFL used to black out a game locally unless it was sold out to try and get people to buy tickets, but why would the Canucks game be blacked out in Toronto?

Long term, wouldn't it be in the NHL's best interest to allow Toronto fans to watch a Canuck game and vice versa instead of getting a small few buy the NHL package?
Buying the NHL package does nothing for the blacked out games. A Vancouver regional game will still be blacked out in Toronto in the NHL package.

That is brutal. I thought if you got Center Ice that you got all games.

So why the hell are games blacked out then?

I wonder if the NHL just needs to start offering a dollar a game streaming options for people who just want to watch a la carte.
