From the Arizona Republic last evening concerning the game with the Leafs tonight:
For the Coyotes, four defensemen are in the NHL's COVID-19 protocol. Goalie Scott Wedgewood is also in that group. The team will also be without head coach André Tourigny, goaltenders coach Corey Schwab and assistant coach Mario Duhamel on Wednesday, leaving only assistants Phil Housley and Cory Stillman to guide the team this week. ...
So it seems the Yotes will be without their head coach, three defenceman and a goaltender.
Arizona Sports 97.3 FM reported last night as follows:
The Arizona Coyotes assigned defensemen Victor Soderstrom, Vladislav Kolyachonok and goaltender Ivan Prosvetov to the taxi squad on Tuesday.
The move comes a day after Arizona placed its head coach, Andre Tourigny, goaltending coach, Corey Schwab, and four players on the COVID-19 list. Three of the four are defensemen Jakob Chychrun, Cam Dineen and Anton Stralman, the other being goaltender Scott Wedgewood.
With a long break in action, the games lately have felt a little bit like pre-season exhibition games. The players have not been crisp, have have mental lapses and have run out of gas early in the games. Despite that, they are definitely clicking at times – especially Kase and Bunting who look ever so happy playing with Matthews – and they actually look like they're having some fun playing hockey.
I agree with another poster that having a back-to-back against Arizona might be just what the Leafs need to stretch it out and find their legs. They haven't had a lot of games lately; they should be in a good frame of mind having just taken three of four points from two of the top three teams in the Western Conference; and it should be "all systems go" for a triumphal return to Arizona for Auston Matthews and Michael Bunting against the injury depleted Coyotes, who were already the last-place team in the league.
The ice is so tilted in the Leafs' favour that it will be difficult for them to maintain their drive and focus for a full 60 minutes, so let's just hope for the best.
