I got thinking after maybe I was wrong about it being a bad game for the Leafs.

We all saw something we weren't used to is all. Berube was proving low event hockey wins over high flying Keefe pond hockey. Goaltending and defense wins cups.

We're just so not used to it we all thought it was a bad game when really it was the best game of the year.

It wasn't low-event hockey... well, in New Jersey's end, it was.

No need to over think this one, the Leafs just played a really bad game.

Goaltending and D win cups, sometimes... Our D was bad this game, goaltending was good

That acting was so bad I wouldn't be surprised if he's nominated for a Razzie.

One shot in the first. Stolarz kept them in it and Markstrom let them tie it. Hughes could have ended it 10 seconds into the OT but missed. Leafs own the Devils for some unknown reason.

It wasnt really low event on the defensive side. The first period was really bad, but 2nd and 3rd weren’t as bad. And Iif Matthews hits the net the Leafs the Leafs could have won in regulation.

Top 5 save% in the NHL over the last 5 years (including this one) for goalies with at least 80 starts:

1. Ullmark: .921
2. Stolarz: .919
2. Shesterkin: .919
4. Sorokin: .918
5. Helle: .918

The more games Stolarz plays, the more we see everyone was sleeping on him.

It's nice to see the Leafs finally have competent goaltending thats really helped mask the crazy rash of injuries. After the illusion of Campbell/Samsonov obviously being a great team carrying couple of losers.

Domi is going to take a few to get back up to speed and we really need McMann and McCabe back as well. For all the folks that attack them, Kampf and Jarn are upgrades on the bottom 6 IMO.

It's going to be interesting what the Leafs do at the deadline as its tough to get a read on the team with all the injuries.

It was a brutal game no doubt about it.

Even in the absolute worst of the worst yesrs I don't think I've ever seen the Leafs only register one shot in a period before.

Kudos to Treliving for signing him for what he did.

He shouldn't but on a night as dismal as that was he was one of the better players.

I don't have access to the game score right now but seeing it last night, I think Reaves or Rielly had the worst one, it matched the eye test to me.

We've been losing since he came back and Stolarz basically went prime Hasek last night lol.

I personally lost my respect for Spezza, and anything he did for our Leafs, when he hitched his ass to Dubas and fled our Leafs for Pittsburgh.
He was working as an assistant for him, hard to blame him going to Pittsburgh and staying loyal to the guy who gave him a chance in a front office role.

Spezza hate is the craziest thing to me. Guy gave it his all in the blue and white. Do people not remember him fighting in the CBJ series? How about him being the only Leaf to show up in embarrassing games such as losing 6-1 to Pittsburgh - a game where our goalie was making his NHL debut?

With Reaves I judge him relative to expectation which is probably why he didn't look that bad to me. He looked like he pretty much always does.

If the Leafs lost this, we'd be ripping them like crazy. Just a horrible effort in the first two periods. Took Berube till the third to decide to put Knies back on the first line and Patches with Tavares and Nylander. But the team was so lethargic, no effort, dumb plays with the puck, etc. This is the same Leafs effort we've seen many many times except..............unbelievable goaltending. We haven't seen this kind of thievery by a goalie since Cujo in the early 2000's.
Maybe that's true, but they're on the road. Some teams travel, show up to a game, and then have no gas in the tank. I don’t care how they won or almost lost. A goalie is part of a team. Toronto has run into teams (like NYR as an example), and they dominate, but lose the game.

You turn down plum jobs? Or just bitch about those who take them? The player worked his ass off for league minimum . I could care less about the exec.
I have. So you admit there were other benefits to coming here other than playing hockey. :)

The Leafs are badly in need of depth scoring yet Reaves dresses vs. a very non-physical/tough team over Robertson (and A.Nylander for that matter).

I think if you're Nick, this is a sign that you're not going back in unless we go through another stretch with 5+ injured forwards.

Reverse phycology on the Leafs game?!

The shot counter isn't a indication on how the team played, some shots yes were from the outside, and some were high danger chances, but last night was a putrid game from Toronto prospective. I mentioned eariler, the two only bright spots from that game was goaltending and the PK.

Limited zone time, limited possession, constant give aways from the d-man, couldn't handle the Devils fast pace and forecheck.

Toronto has been pretty bad these last 9 games, going back to the Vegas one IMO.

Way too many of these games this year. November was pretty solid but last 3 or so games have been awful. Something has to give with how badly they got outplayed regardless of the win.

Stolarz really stole them some points.
Thank you. I'm on 2 forums and I get torched when I tear into this team. Wins are great but if you think there aren't issues with this current team your'e a moron.

Oh I see. Perfectionism = quiet genius. Goalie steals a game against a good team = only morons are cool with this.

Every time I see these posts all I can think of is Father Charles goes down and ends battle/Battle ends and down goes Father Charles as well as every good boy deserves fudge. I don't even know what those mean anymore but they're in the fish brain still for some reason.
WOW! That takes me back about 60 years.

Father Charles Goes Down ... is the order of sharps in music, while the reverse is the order of flats.

Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge (or Fun as I learned, or Favour as in the Moody Blues album) is the order of lines in the treble clef (bottom to top).
