One thing I'll say is Boston's defense is butter soft. Going into the corner against these guys isn't a tough event like it used to be with Chara, Seidenberg, Boychuk etc.

Matthews/Marner would have a field day forechecking against them in the postseason
You think McAvoy and Carlo were/are butter soft? They look like Derian Hatcher and Scott Stevens compared to our corps.

I'd like to see Douglas on the 4th Line with Blackwell and Spezza. Give him a few games to see if he can keep up on the 4th line. That would be a player not many teams have an answer for if he can keep up.
I'm genuinely curious, because I don't watch many Marlie games, is he at least a tiny bit harder to play against than the Goat? I think there's a big difference between 6'5 and 6'8 so I think none/few of the Bs would tangle with Douglas, regardless, but would be great if he has even a shred of 120 grit sandpaper to his mentality.

Douglas is the anti goat. Hes physical and has a mean streak and can drop the mitts.

Being bitches doesn't make them tough.
But is it not true that McAvoy laid body last night? That, objectively, he had the highest amount of hits in the game and that he noticeably knocked a Leaf on their ass? Yeah, he took a minor for wrestling but so did Bunting, so then Bunting is a bitch too?
Carlo is butter soft, yes.
Cool.

I'm already in love. I have seen reports of his skating being subpar, even considering his size, but the Bs are slow as hell, so that wouldn't worry me much in a physical series, just too bad it won't be this year.

Anyone remember when Marchand was pissed because Washington was destroying Boston and Eller said something to the bench after he made it 7- 0, so he jumped Lar Eller, who had absolutely no interest in fighting and just started wailing away on him, and then received absolutely no punishment of any kind? Even in game they both got 5 minutes for fighting. Not to mention the countless other dirty plays (he had a string of like 4-5 dirty slew foots over a couple months that were ignored by the league a few years ago)

It's crazy the crap they pull and get away with. The precedent set there was literally you can just grab someone and beat the living shit out of them and face absolutely no consequences of any kind - regardless of whether or not they are willing combatants, which is supposed to be whole deal with Hockey fights, it's part of the game because both sides agree to it. Imagine if other teams could get away with that - worried about McDavid lighting you up in your playoff series, just send a goon out there to grab him and beat him into submission. Worst case you have him sat in the box for 5 minutes for receiving a beating, 'best case' he's hurt and you get to face a McDavid-less Oilers team.

Edit: Just a follow up on the Slew Footing, I think he did finally get something for one of them, but he's done it so many times unpunished it's almost unbelievable. There's literally a compilation on youtube of them (up to 2017).

Leafs have now played 10gms vs. COL TBL CAR FLA BOS, they've earned 15pts for a 123pt pace, and have a +10 goal differental (+1.0 per game).

Really was a great road win against a great team. We beat them in every possible way all while having every reason not to. They were rested, we were not. They were the home team, we were not. We played with 4 D-men for almost half the game, they played with 6. We played with our 3rd string goalie for 50 mins, they yanked their starter by the 3rd.

Loved how we didn't back down. Gave the Bruins what they deserved.

As for not playing Abruzzese, it appears Sheldon does know more about hockey and his team than I do. Go figure. That would have been a terrifying start to an NHL career, and if I were the coach, Nick may have lost his head last night.

Keep this momentum going boys!!

Of those teams, the one team that really hasn't let us play our game (even though we still earned the points) has been Carolina....and I'm thinking that's to do with them being able to match or even better our speed.

5v5 xGF%

vs COL 61.49%
vs FLA 58.94%
vs BOS 54.95%
vs TBL 51.82%
vs CAR 44.85%

thanks, Fred!

Remember when people thought Timmy was a bust?

Hilarious.

He's gunna be our best defenseman in 2 years. He is just getting started, and the sky is the limit for him TBH

Carlo is soft, especially for his size. Go over to the Bruins board and you'll see their fans shitting on him, he's a fake tough guy.

McAvoy is not soft but he's a dirty bitch

Although I totally agree with the Carolina bit, they have been the team I would say without a shadow of a doubt has made us play their game the most. I also think TB has been pretty hard for us. We beat them early on in the year 2-1 in OT, but it took a late JT goal and I think Willy in OT if I remember correctly? But they really did force us wide that entire game. We stayed patient and played a great game, but we didn't break through 5v5 at any point in that game.

Then we got embarrassed by them in December.

TB is a team I'd not want to face at all. Stanley Cup moxy, best goaltender in the game, high end skill. We will lose that series more often than not IMO.

CAR is a very very good team. And you're right, they match our speed and even exceed it probably. Terrible matchup.

BOS is what they are. Will never go down without a fight, but they are far from a flawless team. They have struggled with depth scoring which has forced them to break up the perfection line. I personally don't think Swayman is any better than Jack Campbell, and if anything is equally capable of stealing a game or laying an egg. That's not meant as a knock on Swayman, he is a promising goaltender, I just wouldn't put him in that Vasy category that is at worst average. Just like Campbell, Swayman is Good, not elite. He may end up getting there, he's just not there yet. We are faster than BOS, and we have more talent. They have the confidence and will to win that we've never displayed, but that's about it. That confidence and will to win has been the reason they have won against us in the past, so there is no reason to think they can't do it again. But as good as they are as a team, we are better and if we can find the will and confidence, we should win that series.

FLA to me is the team I think will be bounced R1 regardless of who they play. They may score in bunches, but they allow goals in bunches as well. I actually think we'd fair the best against them by a mile. They have talent, but I'd argue our talent is better. They are definitely deeper than us at forward but not enough to tip the scales. Their defense is overrated with the exception of Ekblad and could easily be exposed by our talent. They are high octane, and the game is never over with them, but they will give us looks to score.

No matter what, we will be facing a good team and could easily be bounced R1. But I just hope we get BOS or FLA because I think they give us the best chance at advancing

that was a good solid win, and the best part of that win is it wasn't the core that won that game.

Yes Matthews and Marner had a goal and assist each but that was won by the depth guys in Kerfoot, Blackwell, Kampf etc and that's what we are going to need come playoff time

McAvoy got a resting bitch face.
