Why wait a year go to a different team when he's worshipped here and can lock in that money now. And considering how generous we've been, he might figure that in 4 years he can really cash in on an 8 year deal despite being past his prime. As far as playing for free in the postseason, that's over the top cynycal IMO but even if that is a consideration, it's not like the number of games is that daunting.
because he doesn't care about being worshipped and only cares about money?

Wrong. Walking as a UFA next season would maximize his earnings.

It's amazing that people who know nothing of the player personally are so convinced they know how he thinks and what his motivations are.

Why would anyone not expect full NMC for the duration?
This is pretty standard stuff for a player of his stature.
A very simple question asked because it hadn’t been mentioned one way or another.

It’s now been confirmed. I don’t make assumptions on things and I don’t get why you find the question an odd one to be seeking confirmation, but whatever….

Nah. We should clearly all strive to endlessly berate and make false statements about our players, team, GM, President, etc. on an internet forum, because some of the best players this franchise has ever seen had the nerve to sign fair, completely justified contracts.
Curious on some examples of franchise players signing a 4 year deal on the 2nd contract after their ELC. Especially after already signing a shorter term 1st contract. All the recentish guys i can think of that signed the 5 year terms followed them up with 8+ year deals.

He could have done that, but he gives up the chance to sign another massive deal 4 years from now. There are pros and cons for doing it either way.
Always pro's and con's but its an odd hypothetical some are working from.

Feels like a lot of contradictory story telling.

The greediest player in the NHL passed up an opportunity to make more in UFA. The arrogant prick needed to be the highest paid player, but was scared he'd have a down year. So he wanted security in the dollars, but passed on approx $50M in the back-half of the deal, so he could gamble on a big payday at 31 rather than next year when the cap is seeing the biggest jump in 5+ years.

 That seems to be the gist of it.
