I had posted this in the trades and Marlies Subforums already, but further information here. I doubt he's at risk of being claimed when he's waived to go down... He's right on the cusp of getting a shot at some NHL playing time, but not good enough for someone to claim him. Bad timing for him, with Cowen, Minten and Grebyonkin all coming on board... strong competition.

So this leaves Robertson unsigned and Tavares and Marner left to re-new?
Anyone else?

For this year, just Robertson, and maybe a PTO.

For next year, Tavares, Marner, Holmberg, Knies, McCabe are eligible to sign now.. plus some Marlies such as Hildeby, Hirvonen, Abruzzese, and more.... I doubt the Marlies are extended until the offseason.

Good list. Could also have included Dewar and Murray, who are only on one year contracts.

In 2022/23 he had decent offense, but his defensive game left a lot to be desired. Last year, he cleaned a lot of that up. Has his defensive game improved enough for him to be a NHL third liner? Hard to say, but he does deserve a look.. then again, there is a lot of competition this year.

At least now he makes enough to live in Toronto for a year without using foodstamps, although as it is only a 1 year deal, maybe don't buy a house.

Maybe an NHL player on another team but leafs wont give him a shot for some reason

Amadio and Noesen worked crazy well for Knights and Canes as guys we had in AHL and let go

Joey Anderson is still meh and pretty useless for the worst team in the NHL

We will see where Steeves falls once he exits toronto

Amadio never played in the AHL for us.
Noesen played 4 games, at the age of 27. He's another guy who really wasn't a full time NHL guy until 29 years old.

Neither are Marlies developed guys.

The reason that Steeves hasn't had a shot yet, is his 5v5 play, and defensive play left quite a bit to be desired. Puts up decent points, but when you are a defensive liability 5v5 at the AHL level, that's not going to suggest you have a NHL future.... but like I said, he improved last year... maybe the work he did gives him a shot against strong competition this year, but he's probably not going to be good enough to crack our lineup.

AAAA player.

Never seen much from him or Abruzesse that tells me they are anything else.

Good for him but I don’t see an NHL player here, or one that will crack our lineup.

Any potential for being claimed off of waivers may be nullified by the eventual possibility of having to pay him 300K for AHL duty. Even if he never amounts to anything meaningful as a player, it can still be useful to have that option in tow until said player can no longer be an option (whatever the reason may be for that).

Never seems to get a ton of ice time in the NHL. Needs to make hay while he’s up like McMann did in his first appearance.

Could he transform himself into a solid 2 way 3/4 liner?
