what goaltending crisis? I would argue we have one of the deepest Goaltending pools in the NHL.

Campbell = Elite

Woll = top 20

Kallgren = looks promising

we just need to change the goalie coach and trade Mrazek ASAP

Didn't take me long to get comfortable and even became confident in Kallgren as the 1st period played out. A nice feeling for a change.

I've been wondering when the Leafs would one day get a hot rookie goalie to take us on a run, looks like it might be this year, countless examples through history of a hot goalie coming out of nowhere and taking teams deep into the playoffs...it's possible.

But I still believe in Campbell, honestly. I think he'll figure it out and come back and kick ass.

That would be great, but lets pump the brakes a biiiit here. He's played like 85 minutes in the NHL. I hope you are right though. :)

Really hoping Källgren works out for Toronto. They need a break for once! It would be absolutely amazing to see him steal the net and emerge as an elite starter in the NHL. A little good luck for the Leafs would be great for a change. Put this goaltending debate to bed.
Forget luck! We can trade him for Andrew Raycroft!!!

And Scott is the best of the bunch.

Question is, will he repeat last year where Växjö's first choice in net Victor Fasth was injured and he stepped up for them in the playoff to help secure the title? Toronto fans should sure hope so. ;)
We live for now, we can't look forward too far beyond

Happy for Kallgren yesterday. Not to rain on the parade, but it was more of a team shutout than anything yesterday. He had to make a couple big saves, but for the most part they were relatively low percentage shots. That said, Erik came up with the saves we needed him to make in those moments to get us that W. And most importantly the shots that had been going in the last couple months did not. ie. shots from the point through traffic, deflections, and 2nd chance rebounds. Those attempts came, but they were always tracked well, and swallowed for the most part. That was a breath of fresh air. His game last night reminded me of James Reimer's game. Not overly athletic or skilled, but just battles his way through the game with strong positional play. Sometimes it didn't look the prettiest, but he never gave up on a puck. When he saw it cleanly, he swallowed it. For the most part. I've never got Riemer vibes from his time in the Marlies, but I have always come away impressed.

He is very clearly the most NHL ready tendy in our system IMO. I do want to see a bit more tidiness to his rebound control, but I honestly think part of that last night was nerves. He is usually a bit more absorbent than last night from the times I have seen him down on the Marlies.

Overall, I loved what I saw from the kid. There were a couple plays last night that I think he may have had a bit of luck on his side, but for the most part he was very calm, and very present each shift. Strong positionally, which ultimately gave him the shutty.

I want to see more.

100% this. Solid game for the team goalie included but expecting this kid to be part of a cup run against the best teams in the East is a million to 1 shot.

No rentals please Dubas. Let's roll with what we got and see what happens.

It’s actually more important that it was a team effort than a pure Kallgren shutout. Shows that with a fresh goalie and mindset they can turn the page, clamp down on a game and protect a goalie.

Antoine Bibeau was 1.99 with .927 sv% when they brought him up for a couple games as well. There is so little time to look at Kallgren before the TDL he doesn't really solve anything but I hope they roll him out again.

Kallgren was fantastic last night and I’m very happy for the kid but let’s not put the entire hopes and the pressure of 5 first round exits on this kid’s back if Campbell/Mrazek still play like dog crap.

Dubas would be insane not to bring in someone like MAF if he has the opportunity. You don’t risk a Hart worthy season from Matthews on complete unknowns or complete known garbage (Mrazek).

Totally agree, I think Jack will be our best bet. He played ~55 to 60 solid games before having a rough 20. It's nice to have Kallgren do well, but I just don't know if that can be done consistently yet. I will say his style of tending is what we need. Quiet and positionally sound. He's not an overly mobile goalie, in fact I'd say he's maybe even a below average on the athletic front, but we really don't need him to make those type of saves. We need him to be square to the shooter and track pucks. Both of which he has shown he can do very well in his 4+ periods in the NHL and his entire time with the Marlies. But he's unlikely to steal you games in the same capacity that we have seen with Campbell, or any top NHL goalie for that matter. AT least not yet in his NHL career.

I think it was definitely refreshing to see our guys battle in front of him. The odd shot that ended up getting through you could see Erik tracked exceptionally. The only one I think he got a bit lucky with was the deflection that went straight into his trapper without him moving. I am not sure he saw that one. But that's what strong positioning will do for you. He was a big part in that shutout. But yes I agree, the team played great defensively for him. It's amazing what happens when you let NHL quality goalies see the pucks from distance

Looking at Kallgren's GAA and sv% in the SHL playoffs last year gives me hope that we have something here. I'm not willing to call him our Binnington yet but he doesn't give me a heartattack like Mrazek. Thats a win in my books.

Kyle Dubas has little to no choice at all in acquiring a goalie otherwise he will be fired If the Leaf's fall on their faces once again

He really needs to work on his rebounds. A lot of pucks just seemed to bounce or squeeze out of him, and it caused a lot of issues and more chances against. So he definitely got a little lucky, and the Leafs were bound to get a break.

He was really good in traffic and making the routine saves though. Like just having confidence your goaltender can stop a shot from beyond the slot easily was nice for once.

This is it.
If there's any reasonable chance to bring in Fleury, you do.

I would still rather have a goalie that gets infront of pucks instead of moving out of the way like Mrazek lol

I'm pretty sure rebound control is one of the easier things for a goalie to work on but maybe I'm wrong.

There is no reasonable chance to bring in Fleury.

If they can get him for the cost of Foligno last year or less, wouldn't they? I strongly expect Jack will bounce back but he was kind of in free fall before he got hurt. Do they risk the whole season on a bounce back? He is clearly better than Varlamov at this point in time IMO but either is much better than risking the playoff on shaky Campbell and brutal Mrazek. Varlamov may be a solution going forward where there is little chance of that with Fleury. I would be inclined to add one of these two if the cost were reasonable. One organization may value Mrazek a lot more than the other which may tip the scales.

Does KD have more faith in Campbell or the D to recover their game? Maybe that's where the tipping point really is. He is going to spend this year and Dubas is not a risk taker.

The talking heads have suggested that Fleury doesn't want to come to Toronto.
