Toronto holding onto the 2-0 lead vs the Presidents Trophy winner and division opponent would have meant more to me than the 3-1 comeback vs a wild card team tonight. Would have been a nice statement after the 5-1 blown lead and just a way to emphatically shake off the Tampa game.

Tonight was a very so so effort with a nice push at the end. If you thought the OT format was a gimmick, well it took another gimmick to finally get the W. But you take the 2 points and it's better than if we had lost 3-1.

Thoughts on Tampa dropping 8 on Florida?

the thing is, i dont think any pro athlete ever doesnt try, they spend their whole lives doing it because they love it. but they are just people at the end of the day and f*** up lol.

that being said, f*** justin holl..fire that kid into the sun lol.

but seriously, i understand where you or any leafs fan are coming from, it can be a frustrating team to be a fan of no doubt about it. i just want more leafs hockey and im always sad when it ends prematurely :(
This is true and every one of us knows it. I don't care what field you're in, or how good you are at your job. Sometimes you just have a bad day or a bad few days or a sh*tty week where no matter what you do, it feels like you're holding back the waves with a pitchfork and anything that can possibly go wrong will go wrong. Pesky humans.

yep, sometimes no matter how much you want it, it just doesnt seem to happen.
as a matter of fact the more you try/want something the harder it is to obtain alot of the time.

all these players have dreamt of a cup their whole lives like most fans here, except they actually have to do it themselves lol, gives alot more prespective on how difficult it is, especially in hockey. thats why athletes arent fans, they actually know whats up and understand how difficult it is.
its not about "trying" harder lol.

Clearly means Florida is a train wreck too destined for decades of ridicule based on threads in here the past few days.

Am I doing this right?

They don’t have a first round date with the Stanley Cup champions who just woke up from their slumber.

This is classic Tampa though, isn't it? Pretend to stumble near the end of the season and everyone is like 'HAHAH TIME TO GET TAMPA!' then they go ballistic.

Looks like Tampa is waking up right in time to me.
Or overachieving just before playoffs ;)

lol a sport should never make you feel like that though. i have followed them almost 40 years and at the end of the day a stanley cup would be fantastic and long awaited, but its not going to effect me in my everyday life. in reality its just more good hockey i get to watch! i get people are invested, but theres a reason you cant spell fanatic without the word fan lol, if we lose again i fully expect marner and JT and willy to get terrible terrible tweets etc by "fans". to me its really odd how people who cant even play sports can call pro athletes pathetic and disgraces etc etc. people need to enjoy life more lol, they sound miserable.
100% agreed

When I was a little boy, I'd lose my mind when the lost games they should've won, but once i was into my early teens, I still loved and do to this day, I understood how tough the game was to play, how tough it was to maintain your check, how hard it was to beat people on the boards and come out with the puck. The only thing that bugs me now, is guys mailing it in on a consistent basis. Mistakes happen, it's a fast game and everyone on the ice makes them, everybody.

in all reality i dont believe any athlete truly mails it in, unless your name is alexander daigle and u literally dont like hockey lol.

i used to get so mad too, but as i grew up i realized i still got pay rent and go to work etc etc, theres alot of stuff to be mad about in life, a sport aint one of them lol, its fun to watch and we get free entertainment every other night for half the year!

Win was incredible. Unexpected. Can't believe they won a game with no JT and that leadership vacuum left by his absence.

Matthews with no goals in 5 is concerning. Longest streak of his season. Nobody thinks it's a coincidence that it happens during the time he's out with a cryptic injury.

Not one for individual stuff, but Auston needs a team like the Wings to explode against to get his confidence going for Tampa.
I'd like this post if I could, I really really would, but sadly I cannot, you could send me money in lieu of the like, I'd be fine with that.

I take back some of the harsh shit I said about the Leafs tonight. I've been a fan my entire life, so I'm overly passionate about them. I've always been that way. This is a team playing a shit load of games in such a short span after a long, grinding second half.

I'll eat crow this time, I deserve it. What a gutsy comeback win from a tired team that has been battle tested all season.

111 points in the standings, 52 wins, all kinds of records broken, I am proud of what they've done this season. Me talking shit comes from a place of my love and passion for this team. I'm not a fairweather fan or a bandwagon fan. Even if they get swept in the first round, I'd still love them and watch them all 82 games next season because it's my favorite team.

I get overly passionate about them and hate seeing them lose in the playoffs. It's so close to the playoffs and seeing them have efforts like this and in Tampa Bay so close to the playoffs just gives me bad memories and bad vibes. I remember the other 25 games in the last 2 months where they've been for the most part, dominant. Every team has a bad set of games or look horrible here and there. Toronto hasn't done it much this season, so for that, I eat crow and proudly do.

I don't mean to be annoying as shit in the GDT's. When they play well, whether as a collective whole or as a team, I try to sing their praises, or talk about the good plays, goals, blocked shots or saves that they do. I just go overboard with the negativity when they play like crap. I just hate it when they have a mail it in effort. I understand why. I don't think it's because of the game, "not mattering", but because they are simply just dog tired. They played fantastic against Florida the night before. Getting a point from Florida in their building two games in a row is... fantastic.

I honestly don't care about these last two games, this season is just taking forever. I wanna see games that really matter. Doesn't matter what doom and gloom I smattered on about tonight, it'll be their efforts that will be all that matters in game one and after that. I think they have the abilities to win a round, they just have to show up.

Crow doesn't taste as bad as you may think it does.
About 40% of this forum should this post as advice and learn that sports is entertainment, not a replacement for therapy.

I swear some of y'all are less self aware than my Android assistant.

Nice come from behind win from the boys!

Kallgren looked solid too and amazing in the SO. Happy for him.

Still very concerned about the playoffs. Team just doesn't look dialed in right now and Tampa is flying. Along with the major question mark in net.

Well one of the remedies for that, is that they need to be called out when the say really dumb stuff. I know there's a lot of it and it won't get it all, but it should stop some of it.
It won't, winning in the playoffs will. Until then, this is all "told ya so" backup for any first round exit.

The timing of this win was what I liked. A comeback/character win is great so it's fresh in their minds entering the playoffs. It also keeps the home ice advantage in our hands; right now, we don't need any help to retain home ice advantage. There's just no way I want to face Tampa, starting off on the road.

I missed this game but kept checking my phone for the score. I just now caught the highlights. Wow.

2 disallowed goals. 1 per team. Both counted as goals, challenged, then disallowed.

Leafs tie it up in the last minute.

14 shooters in the shootout.

Not. A. Normal. Game.

Leafs were on a back to back and third in four nights. A ton of travel in that time to boot. Don't take anything from this game, except they're still able to gut out a tough win, in tough circumstances.

Go Leafs Go!

Just watched the game. Thought Kallgren was really good overall bunch of key saves, and then the shootout he was stellar obviously.

Thought the Leafs were going to fold like in Tampa, but they showed some pushback, and it was the depth players coming through. Really nice to see.

Maybe so. But I’d definitely rather share a beer with one vs the other.

Life is difficult enough, I prefer my beer half full. Cheers
I always think about having to work with some of posters in these threads. Can you imagine going to work and deal with them every day? Man their offices/workplaces must be soul sucking. Forget having a beer with them once.
