Has anyone read or heard any news on when the league will announce the post all-star break schedule? I lost count of how many games have been cancelled (last I heard I think it was in the high 80's).

The Leafs have had 9 postponed; 4 home and 5 road. The Olympic break was supposed to run from Feb 6 - 22, so that is 17 poteneial game dates.

For the home games (4), 7 of those dates are already booked, though one is an afternoon Marlies game that I suspect could be moved; the rest are concerts and 1 Raptors game. Three of the road games requre a west coast trip (CGY, VAN and SEA), which will almost certainly be a three in four situation. The other two are at MTL and at CLB, both of which could be one-offs.

Regardless, playing 9 games in 14 days (if they squeeze all them in that window) would require probably three sets of back-to-backs.

So much unknown I guess at this point, and I do think I remembered the league saying that other currently scheduled games would also be affected... I also know teams were asked to submit availabilities a while ago for the schedule maker to do their magic.

This will mean more Mrazek no doubt, which could be a good thing to get him in game shape (he clearly is not, and how could he be) and it may be necessary to rest some of the veterans (thinking Spezza, Simmonds, Muzzin maybe, hell even some of the top guys if they feel the rest would do them well). I also worry about injuries with so many games in a small window but I guess that is par for the course.

well they have missed a ton of games yet they play 2 times a week lol...

soon to catch up, they will play 4 games in 5 nights every week.

Like space this shit out

Three in a row and 4 in 5 I think are against CBA rules... if they are applied, which I assume the will be.

I don't think 4 in 5 nights is against the CBA.

I know 3 in a row is although I'm not sure why since the AHL does it.

If the AHL can do it so can the NHL

Any concern they will squeeze all the games and the Leafs will be tired down the stretch heading into the playoffs?

I don’t know how much needs to be rescheduled but the Canadian teams have there fair share of games to make up.

i have a hard time believing how any of those concerts end up going through. While i think fans will likely be back in february, i think they're going to be at 50 capacity at best.

There's no way a music act that is big enough to play the ACC will be willing to lose 50% of their revenue. There's too much production cost at play, so i could see most or all of those concerts being rescheduled or cancelled.

The question when will we see a full capacity event in toronto? I hope by march.

March was when the pandemic was supposed to officially 'end' in Canada, and all pandemic related mandates eliminated (everything from masking to passports etc) ...though, i dont think the gov't is going to honor that date any more.

This I agree with. I have tickets to a show in Montreal in Feb, though it has not been cancelled yet I fully expect it to be. So, I guess the question back to the league is will they play with 50% capacity? Probably yes, since they are doing it in Alberta. So you are right, in such that there may be more dates available for the home games than there are right now.

I think rescheduling will be a lot easier because the arena isn't able to schedule anything apart from sports really. The NHL just needs to accept the lost gate revenue and move on.

Yup. That's my only concern really, we'll just have to wait and see if it's an issue and how big an issue it is but I've always considered it an advantage to play more games early in the schedule, and less games as the playoffs approach.

Here is what I know, after tonight the Leafs will have 5 games in hand on Tampa, 3 games in hand on Florida, and I'm pretty sure at some point it goes to 4 games in hand on Florida and 6 games in hand on Tampa I have to double check the Schedule buy I'm pretty sure at some point it does.

That's just this division that doesn't count the 3 games in hand on the Rangers or Capitals or the 2 games in hand on the Penguins.

Those games have to be made up I expect February to be VERY busy.

The NHL should cancel all star weekend because they are going to need every day they can get because the Leafs themselves have 10 postponed games and there is over 100 total.

On one hand that's good because it means they have an opportunity to avoid both Florida and Tampa in round 1 because if the Leafs win those games they likely win the Atlantic.

at the same time they could run out of gas.

If I counted right by February 1st assuming no more postponed games they will have 5 games in hand on Tampa and 6 games in hand on Florida and all 3 teams are scheduled to play that day so no games getting made up there.

So yeah you can expect a busy February and possible March too.

We might need trade deadline additions just for fresh legs.

They are obviously banking on getting some games in during the now empty Olympic break. The Leafs likely wanted to cancel some of these games due to the Ontario gov restrictions on gatherings. This all falls apart and becomes a complete disaster once Ford extends the restrictions on indoor gatherings. And he will.

I dunno about that... I think we will see a move to lessened restructions starting this week. How far will the lessening go is to be seen of course. Would they jump right back to 50% capacity? Maybe... Regardless of the capacity restrictions, both Toronto and Ottawa will HAVE to get most of those games in during the Olympic break as there would be no other time to do it.

I suspect you will see more Leaf home games added in March and April and more road games changed/added in Feb break .. there will be scheduling changes as well as added dates .. moving games in CLB and FL are fairly simple and easy to do .. hardly any ticket revenue compared to Leafs min 6M per game .. Habs/Rangers next best around 5.5M per game

Problem is, they already canceled Leaf games that were OK'd for 50% capacity.

It’s funny the “league will do whatever it takes” to not delay the start of playoffs, meaning we will have an absurd schedule. I know one thing they could have done, not cancel the f***ing games.

Yes the league will reschedule games to get Leaf revenue at 100% capacity in March and April .. bottom line Leafs will play road games in January and February .. other teams, with $2M or less per gate, will have their games moved to accommodate league .. players want escrow paid out and league wants to maximize revenues .. it is a win win for both .. no one will care about CBA rules .. it is all about da $$$

I could for sure believe in this happening. The league did say in the past when the new schedule comes out, it will not only be the postponed games that get moved around... I just hope there are not too many back to backs and three in four nights... at least not near the end of the season. Mrazek better get his shit together!!
