I'm a little shocked by the Panthers GDT... So used to see other fanbases belittling the Leafs, instead they are praising the team and and giving them a lot of credit. Quite the group of gentlemen over in South Florida.

Yeah, I read through their GDT/PGT and they are really nice and humble. If the Leafs can't end their curse, I am hoping the Panthers do as long as they aren't in our way.

They seriously might have beaten Tampa last season alone if not for some stupid penalties AND missing Ekblad.

If we don't win I wouldn't be against the cats going all the way. That fan base has been through it

The sentiment that Lyubushkin should be the one sitting is IMO misguided. The Rielly-Lyubushkin pairing so far has been the best pairing Rielly has been on by far in terms of defense from the high danger areas.

The closest the Leafs had come previously to the Rielly pairing not being a complete mess in the high danger areas was the infamous Rielly-Hainsey pairing, which Babs basically never split up once they were put together (13 5v5 mins per game over 2 seasons, 0.23 HDGA/60 Rel, -0.7 HDGF% Rel, with a 45% Offensive zone start %).

Since then, every pair Rielly has been on has either had to be heavily sheltered or when they have seen usage similar to Rielly-Hainsey, have been caved in:

Rielly-Ceci: 10 5v5 mins per game, 0.24 HDGA/60 Rel, -13.1 HDGF% Rel, with a 51.7% Offensive zone start %
Rielly-Barrie: 6 5v5 mins per game, -0.54 HDGA/60 Rel, +16.9 HDGF% Rel, with a 62.4% Offensive zone start % (heavily sheltered)
Rielly-Brodie: 11 5v5 mins per game, 0.19 HDGA/60 Rel, -9.48 HDGF% Rel, with a 54% Offensive zone start % (North Division numbers not included)

Since Muzzin got hurt on Feb 22nd the Leafs split up Rielly and Brodie. Initially they tried out Rielly-Liljegren, which was an absolutely horrendous pair at defending in the high danger areas (5 mins per game at 5v5, 2.64 HDGA/60 Rel, +1.46 HDGF% Rel, with a 57% Offensive zone start %)

Then Keefe finally tried out Rielly-Lyubushkin, and since then they have been great defensively in the high danger areas (7 mins per game at 5v5, -0.43 HDGA/60 Rel, -7.7 HDGF%, with a only a 37% Offensive zone start %). This is basically a first for any Rielly pairing other than Rielly-Barrie in extremely sheltered usage, meanwhile the Rielly-Lyubushkin pair gets opposite usage in terms of zone starts.

I have no stats to back it up but Holl seems to lead the team in dumb penalties / 60 so I won't shed a tear if it's him that sits. Lily stays in though or Keefe is out of his mind.
Why do I have this crazy feeling he is sitting Lily? I shouldn't because he and Gio are our best pair. But something in my gut says he is gonna sit da rook. I hope I am dead wrong.

I looked it up.

One regular dman takes more minor penalties per toi than Holl.

Sitting Lily could end up being a positive in one respect. It could show how much the team needs him when he's out. Competition is a great thing and I think it pushes all the guys on the back end to be better.

Regardless of who sits, this is the answer. We need 7 or 8 capable D-men for any kind of playoff run. I am not linked to one player or the other, I only wish that whoever is in there gets the job done; depending on how Muzzin plays, we will be at a solid 7. At the end of the day I am a Leafs fan... these guys just happen to wear the jersey.

Via: Ice Chips: Oilers' Draisaitl, Kane trending towards playing Tuesday - TSN.ca

The Panthers skated with the following lines ahead of Tuesday's game against the Leafs:

Verhaeghe - Barkov - Duclair
Huberdeau - Bennett - Giroux
Marchment - Lundell - Reinhart
Lomberg - Luostarinen - Thornton

Extras: Mamin, Hornqvist

Forsling - Weegar
Chiarot - Gudas
Hagg - Montour
Carlsson - Lindbohm
That there a fantastico tico team, just like ours is, but them still playing gezames with thornton, joe... :biglaugh: Joe DOES NOT make that team better, but worse. Even the sharks knew it and that's why they gave him up to us. He can ONLY talk anymore. Should be an assistant coach or a mascot now. Not a player. He takes room off the young, fast nhl players. A fact: Joe's playing ice hockey only WORSTENS florida's chances in the playoffs. If he is behind the bench, he would make them STRONGER. I know bout life. He used to be the greatest (not in the playoffs though, always choking with marleau and couture etc, but its over now.

Also a fact: I watched EVERY san jose shark playoff games with patty and joe in there. They could score at times, but after the scoring shift, they always allowed goals in. They was not the warriorest players never and always gave up on goals and the opponent striked hard. That's why they failed, always in the playoffs period. Seen em' all.

It should be. He plays a very physical game. When you do, that's what happens. And it's why Reilly now has space to operate - notice that?

Anyone who has played contact sports understands Boosh is the guy you want beside you. It's all so much more than some moronic out-of-context stat.

hahahaha People here want to sit our only banger on D. Unbelievable.

I don't. I want Holl sat but that isn't likely to happen.

I did notice them making gaffs that led directly to 2 goals against in a 6-2 win if that's what you mean.

Muzzin in, Boosh out. Care to try again?

Boosh has been really good for us, but playing that way takes its toll and we want him healthy, and this looks like a scheduled loss anyway, so maybe that’s the thinking.

The correct answer is that we are in a situation where we have 7 d-men who should be in the lineup, and one has to sit.

Personally? I sit Justin Holl. Maybe next game it's Lyubushkin.

Liljegren shouldn't sit at all.

Because we have a very good team. Anyone who tries and belittles this team, fan or not, don't watch the games.

The reason we aren't in the division lead still is because we got a piss poor level of goaltending for the better of 3 months. Maybe closer to 3.5

If Jack Campbell is back to being able to put up his current season average of .914, on a regular basis, we will win waaaaaaay more than lose.

We don't need .935 goaltending.

.914 or up, all we need.

I don't see a division win as likely.
The Leafs will cool off at some point and 7 points is a big gap to make up in 13 games.

I think holding off the Bruins/Lightning for 2nd should be the priority and hopefully, if they get that locked up with a few games remaining they can rest anyone with nagging injuries or just needs a rest (which I'd suggest they do even if their spot isn't locked up - no use risking an injury to a key player for home ice advantage, which isn't always much of an advantage.)
