Why doesn't Matthews smile after he scores any more? He used to. I'm concerned..
Doesn't want to look like he's gloating, wants to appear humble. At least that's my thoughts on it.

If you see his celebration on his hat trick goal, he does his usual hand gesture at the crowd. That's enough for me.

Matthews 99% of the time has a stone face expression. I was a little annoyed after he scored 50 and the fans were cheering for him for an hour he didnt even acknowledge them and wave. Guess he isnt that type of guy or isnt really his personality type.
I think he usually gets pretty pumped but I think he is pretty humble too considering how good he is at scoring goals.

I think if he gets 60 he'll be pretty damn pumped.

Welp, we're going to win again tonight in regulation. And we'll only be 5 points back. Catching them is improbable but not impossible. They lose a couple and we win a couple we're 1 point back if we win in regulation tonight.

lol that's just his personality.
his favorite basketball player is westbrook for a reason.

matthews likes to mean mug after scoring goal instead of being all jolly. it's his way of saying "this is too easy for me. just another day at the office. i score goals in my sleep."
he does smile a ton when he scores OT winners though.

If we take care of business tonight… that’s all 4 contenders dealt with in the last 3 weeks… and the 1st place Panthers twice.

When we return to Florida on the 21st and 23rd… that’s when we could be contesting for 1st place.

Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner are a heavy load and just dominating on the scoreboard right now… I really do think they play this way straight into the playoffs.

After tonight, I see the remaining games as very winnable and see us possibly catching Florida by the 23rd.

Insanity. Divisional playoffs need to go, go back to 1-8 seeding. We have what should be the conference final happening in the 1st round.

Based on points today, the Leafs get Boston using the current format. They'd get Tampa in a 1-8 seeding. Is it really that much of a difference?

So in the last 5 games of the season, in order:

Leafs have:
Lightning
Panthers
Caps
Wings
Bruins

Panthers have:
Leafs
Lightning
Bruins
Sens
Habs

Bruins have:
Rangers
Habs
Panthers
Sabres
Leafs

Lightning have:
Preds
Panthers
Jackets
Jackets
Islanders

Looks like the last 5 games of the season are going to decide the division. Gonna be insanely pressure packed right until the final whistle.

If the leafs are going to have a shot at the division, wins in regulation tonight and in their next Florida game are a must

It would be funny for the leafs to go on a tear to win the division only to have to face Boston in round 1

Not to get ahead of ourselves. Just hoping for a solid game. But still, some possible history-making...

If Matthews scores one goal, he will hold sole possession of the Leafs single season goal scoring record.

If Matthews scores two goals, he will set the record for most goals scored in a season by an American-born player.

If Matthews scores three goals, he will have scored 50 goals over 48 games, becoming the only player to score 50 goals in their last 50 games since Mario Lemieux in 95-96.

We’re a better team than Boston with a better goaltender. Their only chance is to goon it up, which they’re not above. This would be the year we get the monkey off our back

Why risk your injury prone starter who just came back from an injury with the playoffs around the corner

Because he's very well rested, looks on form, and this game could get us within 5pts of Florida for the division lead (and give us a secondary tiebreaker advantage too).....or it could seal off first place for good with a 9pt gap.

Possible lineups

I'm surprised nobody has commented that Lily is sitting. At least that's what I heard on the radio about 90 minutes ago.
