Then you are completely ignoring the NHL's biggest TV partner is Rogers/TSN. Southern Ontario is the 3rd biggest NHL market in existence on a pure numbers basis. On the amount of people who actually tune in, its higher. The Leafs financially operate in a different universe. The Leafs are pretty much the only way to get a deal like the last one.

But US has a population of over 330 million, while Canada is 38 million...the Canadian market is pretty much saturated already, while there's still a big untap market in the US...there's a reason why Bettman is set on not moving the Coyotes despite the financial debacle with the team.

There's also gambling to grow the business, that's what Bettman wants...if there are less US teams playing in the playoffs, how are they going to give exposure to the US fans and the US market to grow the gambling market? Unfortunately, Bettman's business plan doesn't involve Canadian teams succeeding in the playoffs.
Are we really suggesting that the refs called the game based on Bettmans desire to grow a US market and 375.net? Consider that statement beyond being pissed the hell off as we alll are. There’s no conspiracy man, they called it straight up and we lost, barely.

I don't know why, but this is all I can see from the game, yet again...

People still cannot conceptualize game management being a thing

They literally fired a f***ing ref this year for *gasp* managing a game when his mic was hot. Let's not all admit at once here that he was actually fired for the NHL to save face.

But, the NHL is entirely about local markets. Southern Ontario isn't getting grafted. Let's put it this way, the Leaf's are a very significant part of a deal that is comparable to the American deal. One, it's rapidly growing, so what a title would mean to new-gen fans is massive. Two, ticket sales wise the percentage the NHL would receive is ridiculous. If you think Betteman/owners would risk kill the cash cow to fertilize the field. Fair enough.

My honest question is this though. Why is McDavid in Edmonton, and Matthews in Toronto if they'd risk viably altering stuff. A draft would be the easiest thing to change.

That hot mic is just the tip of the iceberg...he happened to get caught, but that's the tradition...I wonder what it's like to be a fly on the wall in those meetings.

Maybe Bettman is robbing Peter to pay Paul, he's sacrificing the Leafs in the short and mid-term to grow the US market. Edmonton and Toronto got McDavid and Matthews because they were bad and won the draft lottery...even Bettman can't corrupt a third party auditing firm...the firm doesn't belong to him or the NHL, and no reputable firm like that would collude with Bettman to rig a draft lottery...funny thing is, I still remember him going behind the curtains and coming out with the pick to give Pittsburg Crosby when the draft audit was less stringent.

But so what? Refs managing games has happened for as long as I've been alive. It's like complaining that the sun rises in the east. It happens in every sport. Complaining about it is a loser excuse. Refs didnt lose this game for the Leafs

An entire page of refs and conspiracies. Lord.

High sticks have been called hard for 15 years. Sucked ass but nothing to argue.

They should have won that game. I’m as jaded as anyone, but they played a hell of a game. I cannot se them losing game 7 at home. I just don’t. It took everything TB had to hold court. Bring it on

Man I didnt come here to engage in Qanon ref talk. Whatever.

They played their damn hearts out, first game of the series that looked like a playoff game, and they looked good. I like their chances, honestly cant see tb winning next in sba

Then there's no need to fire him, unless they are trying to give an impression of impartiality and integrity when they have been game managing for decades...so the NHL by firing him is admitting game management is wrong, but they still continue to do it?

Its admitting that that the perception is poor public relations, which is being abundantly demonstrated in these last few pages. Look, I dont know if its right or wrong, if you want to put me in a camp put me in a penalty is a penalty, pre-season or game7.

Just watched the highlights of the game and

Jack Campbell should be ashamed of himself, he let in deflating and shitty goals that were almost all stoppable

I'd call a stick on it, even after the super slow mo. Complaining about refs is loser talk, les just win g7 4-0

I mean you're entitled to your opinion but this was some pretty lopsided refereeing. Tampa Bay had 3X the powerplays, including a 2 min. 5 on 3 on a bad call. This is what, their third game in a row with a 5 on 3 due to a bad call? Just ridiculous.

Then, when you think okay, the officials are going to call clear penalties on Tampa at least after that error, you have the Leafs having to pay through this

And then getting calls against on borderline calls. It's ridiculous, if it's not bias at this point - then these officials should be fired due to their inability to call the game.

100%. Hated that backhand shorthanded goal - what a weak shot, wth was Campbell defending?, even the 5 on 3 goal - he makes himself as small as possible. Overtime goal, close your damn legs. Campbell is a mental midget, he gets more nervous than fans in big games. That's why I'm worried for what kind of goaltending we might get in Game 7 from him.

I expect Matthews, Marner, Tavares, and Nylander to bring it on Saturday night.

I predict there is no comeback in game 7… we dominate from the puck drop.

I'm as pessimistic and jaded as anyone.

But.....

- they had home ice
- they had the refs
- they scored 2 goals with assists from Leafs
- they have the mojo that comes with never losing two games in a row

And they still took 78 minutes to finally scrape past us.

Next game, they'll probably only have one of those four things (refs), it's highly unlikely we'll giftwrap two for them, and the other two are no longer factors.

Chins up

Sometimes when you deserve to win, you lose.

Leafs showed up tonight. That’s a good sign for Saturday.

The crowd should be deep into this game tomorrow night, leave it all out on the ice boys!

GO LEAFS GO

Leafs have a 2-goal lead over six games. Powerplay goals aside, it's a five goal lead. They are a better team who's been given fewer powerplays and haven't capitalized often on the few they've been given.

Stay out of the box and there should be no reason they can't win it. You can never predict what the reffing will be like, so don't tempt fate. Keep your stick down.

Shows they're tentative to go for it in an elimination game and want to feel things out in the first period. Hopefully they've learned that and play some motivated hockey at home in front of a live crowd. They have never had Game 7 home ice with the crowd advantage since 2004. Coincidentally that was the night Joe Nieuwendyk lit up Lalime early and often.
2019?

Yes, that was dumb, but what about the knee by DeBrusk that started the whole thing? Guy got nothing, no penalty, no fine, nothing. I remember in that game, Pastrnak literally jumped off his feet for a charge and got nothing. Officiating for that game was pathetic, designed to gave all the advantage to the Bruins.
The refs definitely favor boston the only time boston gets slapped by the nhl is when Marchand goes into meltdown mode

now its time to put lily in and send holl to the press box
