It's not Tavares we should be worrying about right now.Can always re-assemble the Big Line but right now the key is to get something out of Tavares.

Just saw the replay of Kase getting hit. Damn that kid has no luck. I hope he's going to be alright.
Top 8 in the East is getting tight. Leafs can find themselves 1 point out of 8th place by the time they get to play again. It’s crazy to think we are only 1 point behind Tampa Bay
yup at this point, its quality of life after your career, why risk it imoFor his sake though he should retire. 5 concussoins before this one
I know it's easy for me to say. Maybe get a coaching job in Czech if he wants to stay in the game
I’m sure there were many different ways to manage it.Feels like the Leafs could have stickhandled around that if they weren't so gung ho on keeping Andreas Johnsson, Kasperi Kapanen and signing them to those $3 million + deals. Some combination of letting Marleau's deal run out and pro-actively moving on some of those younger guys for futures and the asset management could have looked different. But obviously that is with hindsight.
A line just doesn't figure out. That's coaches job to figure things out
Sometimes a line catches fire, builds great chemistry, then other teams catch up to it. It's on the coach to figure things out who works with who. Players games changes, their approach changes, and the league changes
Just because a line has worked in the past doesn't mean it will have the same effect
Keefe needs to seperate Nylander and Tavares. Maybe try Matthews and Tavares with Bunting for a while. Have kerfoot on the second line with Marner and Nylander
You'd hate to see someone so young, have to retire. At this point though, I agree. Or at the very least, have him shut it down for the rest of the season. Either way it's a shame. He's such a fun player to watch. For his sake though he should retire. 5 concussoins before this one

He has separated Nylander and Taveres, its worse every time. I don't know how you break up the top line, its an absolute beast. Taveres and Nylander need a Bunting on the line... if anything I'd try Bunting on the second and move whoever the hell in to the top line, it might not matter a ton with Marner and Mattews Marnering and Matthewing.A line just doesn't figure out. Sometimes it’s just easier to blame others than to face the truth.
Dubas is a trigger happy GM who has made a lot of moves, has shown genuine creativity and won and lost of some big bets along the way.
Problem is I don't think this Leafs team needed to win big bets to get to serious contender status. Just needed a more gradual stewardship and judicious building because they started off with such a uniquely talented core group.
All is not lost by a long shot, but I think a cap restructuring in the offseason with their middle class, more smart UFA buys and repairing the cupboard is necessarily to get that upward momentum back in a serious way. Right now we're good but are vulnerable in a few different play styles.
Keefe has to split up Tavares and Nylander they are incompatible. Nylander looks unhappy, Tavares is Dr Gloom and Kerfoot is like the rodent in the the spinning wheel. Wake up Keefe it ain't working!
Of course it was a better situation than most, most of the time guys are walking into tire fires thus the regime change. You're still trying to argue that Dubas did not walk into a new GM's dream? Give it up please, or name 3 other GM's that took over a 100+ point team in the entire history of the NHL?

It’s just disingenuous to suggest he was some sort of benefactor of an abundance of ELC talent and lots of depth. The guys his old boss had for $3m combined for multiple seasons he had to commit 30 to. Not to mention the $11m in boat anchors on the left wing & 2nd pair RD he was saddled with
Maybe I am missing something? How is that possible? Columbus is 16 points behind us?Top 8 in the East is getting tight. Leafs can find themselves 1 point out of 8th place by the time they get to play again.
No way the Flames would take Nylander for Tkachuk.Ottawa wouldn’t trade Brady, but do you think Calgary could be tempted to part with Matthew?
Nylander for Tkachuk. No idea what other pieces would need to be involved to make a deal work, but M.K is EXACTLY the type of player the Leafs need, imo.
kyle should just grow a pair of balls, and trade the captain who took all the heat to come here. Lou lam styleBelieve me, this is not a hot take. Nylander is very skilled, but especially in this trade deadline, can you imagine what we could get for him? I’ve never liked his soft, lack of compete level to his game.
Moving Nylander is not the type of trade you make at the deadline, unfortunately, but I really think we could address some real serious needs by trading him.
One way or another, we desperately need to bring in skilled players that bring physicality and intensity. You absolutely need that to be successful in the playoffs.
