You want to upgrade the defence? Sit Holl for 5 games straight and see the results, won’t even cost any assets at the trade deadline. Also, enough of the morons on here that say that Holl hits or plays with a physical edge…..No, he doesn’t, you just assume he does because you have figured out he useless in all other areas and assume he must be physical and that’s why he plays 20mins a night.

Yeah and Dubas was gifted a team with boatloads of cap space and elite young talent on ELCs. One won a Cup, the other has created an annual embarrassment to the city of Toronto. A team that looks nowhere closer to winning even a single playoff round then when he started.

I agree though, I wouldn’t want him building this team either but Dubas is a total failure so far just like him in his time here.
Sad but true. This team would be a dynasty if not for the 3rd year of the Marleau contract 😂

Because in the playoffs, throwing your weight around with refs swallowing the whistles = built for the playoffs

It's why actual hockey takes a backseat to dead puck antics and obstruction
And yet no one agrees with me that Chara would be a great pick up. Yup, he’s old and slow, but you don’t need to be a gazelle to kill penalties and clear the front of the net.

Oh and for those who want this team to show some push back when things get physical… rumour has it that big Z has a bit of a nasty streak to him.

He's the new Jake Gardiner. Some fans swear that he's a legitimately good top-4 D because fancy stats even though he's a complete trainwreck when you watch him play.

Man, how many years has this fanbase scoffed at Boston for having an empty prospect pool, limited futures, and due at any time to fall down the standings and yet every year they keep having more success than us?

I have a feeling that this season Andersen is going to shut the Leafs out. Not as a joke from hockey gods but as a warning.... to be seen of course...

That second line really needs to sort itself out. Don’t know if that occurs from within or via a trade. You can see right now what the strategy in the playoffs will be from other teams. Focus and frustrate that first line while pretty much telling the Leafs:

“We’re not gonna let your first line beat us so let’s see what your second line can do.”

It’s going to be very interesting to see what Dubas does over these next two days. He definitely has to be feeling some heat.

Marchment isn't good enough to play on a team that features Kyle Clifford on our 4th line, along with combined 134 year old Jason Spezza and Wayne Simmonds.

In all seriousness, good for Mason. Florida has been a great fit for him. They fleeced us in the Marchment / Malgin deal.
That’s not fair, just wait till Malgin comes back from Europe, he will be lethal with Nick Patan. Can never have enough small offensive minded players who aren’t skilled enough to play in offensive role in the NHL….the Dubas special.

Because that's Mesai an this is Dubas
One is not like the other
Before Masai won his championship what was the difference? Those raptors teams were perennial underachievers who had a strong organization but players who didn’t get the job done.
Please don’t say Masai won rounds. First round playoff basketball is a joke and there are a lot more poo teams that make it vs hockey. Nhl first round is the best of the four and the most intense and competitive.
Leafs never got swept by the carcass of Paul pierce and shit ass John wall

I think they’ve been reading the data backwards.
I’ve seen Holl declared an elite top 4 and Lybushkin the 8th best defenseman on the team.

Why are some of you so hung up on what a gm tells players or the media? Masai promised demar he was a raptor 4 life & 12 hours later the fun guy was on his way from San Antonio
Not hung up
The difference between masai and dubas is one guy said it but made the move which turned out to win a championship
The jury is still out on the other guy

Not true. He had one expired ELC to sign and two expiring ELC’s while being handed grenades in the form of Marleau and Zaitsev.
Not to mention a lack of attention on backfilling as the previous gm sold off high picks for ancient 4th line marginal upgrades and let key FA’s walk in what should’ve been rebuilding seasons.
It’s pretty easy to assemble decent depth when you have Nylander Matthews and Marner making $3m combined.

I think the Leafs need to break up the Matthews Marner duo to take the focus off. Stick Tavares and Marner together to get something going there. Nylander goes with Kerfoot and Matthews fends for himself with Bunting and someone else.

Can always re-assemble the Big Line but right now the key is to get something out of Tavares.

Who needs a gazelle when we already have a giraffe ? lol

This user name however is depressing lol... oh we don't need reminders of Ballard.

Second line is in a 2 month long funky funk. You're right, a lot hangs on it figuring itself out. We know they can play when its going, when it does we're a handful. I gotta think these guys are too talented to not get going again, we'll see. For now it's better now then in May.

No he didn’t. He had expiring ELC’s and a couple of grenades in zaitsev & marleau. Not to mention not much on the farm, and a bunch of ufas at key depth spots.
The blue line was
Rielly hainsey
Gardiner zaitsev
Borgman Polak
The top prospect was Jeremy Bracco.
You're still trying to argue that Dubas did not walk into a new GM's dream? Give it up please, or name 3 other GM's that took over a 100+ point team in the entire history of the NHL?

Feels like the Leafs could have stickhandled around that if they weren't so gung ho on keeping Andreas Johnsson, Kasperi Kapanen and signing them to those $3 million + deals. Some combination of letting Marleau's deal run out and pro-actively moving on some of those younger guys for futures and the asset management could have looked different. But obviously that is with hindsight.

It’s the same idiots every year. They end up looking dumb but come back just as cocky next year.

Just saw the replay of Kase getting hit. Damn that kid has no luck. I hope he's going to be alright.

A line just doesn't figure out. That's coaches job to figure things out

Sometimes a line catches fire, builds great chemistry, then other teams catch up to it. It's on the coach to figure things out who works with who. Players games changes, their approach changes, and the league changes

Just because a line has worked in the past doesn't mean it will have the same effect

Keefe needs to seperate Nylander and Tavares. Maybe try Matthews and Tavares with Bunting for a while. Have kerfoot on the second line with Marner and Nylander
