5-7 in the playoffs against garbage teams
They were in a virtual tie with Columbus when the season paused. Both teams put up 81pts. In 70 games for a 95pt pace. That series was more of a toss up than we care to admit. Last year wasn’t coaching, it was mental errors at critical moments, an inability to get any production out of their $33M forward trio & Carey Price turning the clock back for a month starting game 5. That garbage team also swept the jets and dummied Vegas on their way to a cup final so save it.

It was Corey Perry's knee that stopped a third of that trio one period into the series.

Still didn’t get any production from him, I’m not suggesting it’s by any means his fault. Just the fact is $33m spent between 3 players out of an $81.5m cap produced exactly 1 goal in 7 playoff games.
Even Scottie Bowman would look awful if his stars gave him 0

Yeah that’s why coaches will change up their lines or get different matchups. Not proclaim to the media that they don’t match lines. It’s ok you think beating up on the North Division makes someone a good coach so there isn’t really a point in discussing further.

“Let’s play Nylander 16 minutes a game even though he’s our most dominant offensive player this series” - Sheldon Keefe

They were in a tie with CBJ because the team underperformed under Babcock and he was fired. Not because they are evenly matched teams. CBJ isn’t in the same hemisphere as this roster. See following season

Every people here about whining our past failures and over reacting on every loss are basically part of the problem Paul Maclean word out in All Or Nothing: they have demons everywhere. Size of this fanbase generates lots of noise good and bad. No, I don't think whining in GDT affects our players in general, but all nonsensical banter lingers around fans and generate more nonsensical banter in someway. Adding stupid negative cycle around our team and we have huge legacy on that so sky will fall all the time.

I know it doesn't go away and this is just one stupid take from me, but does it matter that much when we lose some game sometime when were going in the right direction in general? This is sports if best team would win everytime no one would watch it.

Most of the negative people said before the season, that regular season doesn't matter, so why bother? Negative cycle around losses is stupid and doesn't help anyone. If we're going to real losing streak or have shit season it's understandable.

Quinn and burns had HOF players all through the line up, what are you talking about?

They had one HOF, Sundin, the rest were past their primes. they never ever had as deep of a top 4 as we have and as deep of a top 3 d as we have and never had a goalie as good as Campbell. Stats don't lie.

Good game. Their goalie stole one. Our goalie has stolen games for us. BTW Montreal is the worst team.

On a singular basis, we should win every game, based on talent alone, but we know we cannot possibly do that. The past is the past. I love reading about how losing to Columbus obviously means something today. Or losing to Boston so often is somehow impacting what happens this year.

Really, 4 wins and 3 losses = .571 winning percentage. So, to win the cup, we have to win 57% of the games (provided we win all the game 7s we play, and yes, I know, no way any team wins 4 game 7s in one year, blah, blah, blah).

Go 4-2 in each series, that is .667. We would love to win every series 4-2, but as of this writing, only 7 teams have a points % higher than .667, including TOR, and only 2 teams have RgPt% higher than .667, NOT including TOR.

One loss against a bad team does not ruin the season or mean anything other than yep, we lost a game. The numbers show we were the dominant team in the desert, but the math didn’t hold. Even if you don’t love analytics, the fact that we were obviously the much better team is more important than anything else. If we got completely swamped by the Yotes, I would find that way more disturbing.

It seems a shame that one loss brings this feeling of dread. I love the Leafs, and I love the chatter about them, but I feel bad for the doomsayers that think a singular event means the future is already set, and the Leafs are just bums. Alas. All we can do is move on to the next one. It really isn’t like we are dead in the water here.

I know having the best overall win% in franchise history thru parts of three seasons shows he’s a good coach.

Belfour and cujo were definitely top end goalies much like Campbell is showing to be. They had both proven that tho.
Gilmour is in the hall as well… Burns’ top 4 was an oiled machine

Carolina, the best team in the NHL, lost tonight, at home, 6-0, and got outshot 35-31 to Columbus.

Do you think they are freaking out the same way people are here?

6-0 wow, thank you for that, I had no idea and that definitely put a smile on my face. I don't know about them being "the best team" though, sorry for being a nit but let's just say they are one of the top teams.

I'm amused people are still upset about this one. We outshot the opponent a zillion to one and their goalie stole one. It happens, not a big deal, our goalie has stolen a game or two for us this season (yay!) too.

We haven't played our best hockey lately but not a big deal. It wasn't a big deal when we were setting records in November, it's not a big deal that we're not playing our best now either and not every game is a masterpiece for any team. Looking forward to watching the game tomorrow (the Bills game too), I have no doubt we will snap out of it soon.

Hyman gone allowing Nylander to move up the depth chart is a big reason for this. Therefore Keefe may have cost us two series in a row not using Nylander as a top 3 guy on the team.

And like I said in my original post. Decent coach, poor tactician. I think he’s a good coach and agree with 90% of the stuff he does. But you can see in the playoffs the head to head coaching matchup he’s overmatched.

Have to agree in playoffs last year it was Keefer who lost that one for us .. should have been 4-0 done .. Sandin playing was a huge error in judgement and cost team 2 games due to an issue that he is very well familiar with .. and when you see Kerfoot and Willy dominating Habs on virtually every shift you don't change it up for sake of trying to get Matty going .. 2 HUGE errors in coaching .. but mistakes often made by rooks

Games like this one are going to happen and are not really reflective of where the team is at. A hot goalie, even behind an AHL team, can stone a team in one game. If we didn't dominate the game, then we'd have something to gripe about.

My only concern with this game is Mrazek. The team did everything to make his night easy, and yet he still had an .880 save percentage. He hasn't played well in any game he's been in, granted a small sample size. At what is he earning, he should not be delivering sub-Hutchinson numbers, regardless of how many games he's played.

His team has dominated play but hasn't scored, how is that being outcoached? Is he supposed to score too? He has ran systems where they out chanced the other teams

Cut da guy some slack .. he hasn't played in forever .. and coming off an injury .. you can't expect any pro player to walk into a game cold .. it takes some time to get your timing back .. what Keefer should do is throw him back in there tomorrow night .. sorry i hate when someone gets thrown under da bus for lack of game time .. it is wrong and Keefer knows better shame on him
