Post-Game Talk: Leafs lose to MONTREAL. This team is no gangsta. Lyubushkin is needed, hard.

I'm also finally turning on JT. Been sticking up for him all along, but no more. He's been useless for a good while now. Just USLESS.

Nothing to like about that team performance top to bottom. All you have to do is play physical and work hard and you've solved the Leafs, as we buckle under any amount of pressure and have no physical response on the roster.

JT continues to look cooked. Not sure how we recover from that $11M if he can't figure it out. Holl also better not play a single playoff game for us. Our goaltending is a horror show also. Lots to solve before the playoffs.

To be honest do you really think Leafs have the brass to go against Tampa or Florida in round 1 and come out on top?

the core4 especially matthews-marner never adjust and change the way they play when their cute and fancy plays aren't working. Easy night for opposition.

Montreal has a big defence and we have no one on the top lines that can fight off a check and penetrate. Same thing happened to us last year. Matthews marner nylander and Tavares not willing to fight for an inch of the ice- our defence the softest in th3 league. Never finish a check or clear the net. Don’t make any trades at the deadline.

Someone take Dubas' phone away from him. He should not be able to mortgage more of the team's future, with this core as constructed it's likely another 1st round exit and no reinforcements coming in are gonna change that.

If they can't figure it out in the playoffs it's time for a major change and we might need the 1st round pick to dump some salary in the off season

The core should've been Marner, Matthews, Nylander, Rielly, and another top 2 defenseman. Round it out with some picks the Leafs developed after an additional year of being mediocre without JT (and some of the firsts we pissed away), and some decent secondary scoring that wasn't just league minimum, and you'd have a much better team than today's Leafs.

The problem was that Shanahan and Dubas rushed the rebuild, set a terrible precedence for contract value, and left the team crippled. Plus COVID ruining what little hope they had to recover.

Everyone with a brain could see that by the time the young core was peaking, JT would be in serious decline.

Idk…I’d be nervous with that team.

goaltending is probably equal, both have fragile netminders who crack when it matters most

so looking at team style and structure, Carolina has us edged out

defensively, they are the class of the league, multiple sub 30 shot games, mostly dominate their opponents

they forecheck relentlessly. line 1-4 play heavy dump and chase hockey. Our defence better make good and quick decisions lest they want their passes to be stolen
 
Funny enough, Holl was the only D, to not have a goal scored against him while he was on the ice, but was on the ice for both goals for. Rielly and Brodie were on the ice for three goals against.

Once again, Tavares/Nylander/Kerfoot had a rough night 5v5.

This team stands no chance in the playoffs vs teams like Colorado, Tampa and Florida. Way too many holes... which is expected with three 11 million dollar players.

The Tavares signing ultimately killed their chances to compete for a cup.’

I was really against the JT signning back in the day but I was told "free wallet" and "cup" especially when the Leafs issues back then was actually defense it wasn't scoring but......

I think the only favourable matchup one could play in the east is Washington. And for that we’d have to come first in the conference.

Every other team has their flaws and strengths, but is a tier ahead of Washington
