there is a huge difference between 2 players battling in front of the net, and being hit from behind and taken out of the play.

Yup, huge difference and I was thinking the same thing when it happened.

Don't know what to tell you, this stuff happens many times by both teams every game.

Funny, I only remember it happening once last night.

They still the same thing they was last of the league and it was not the 1st game against mtl... so yes its the same thing.

except if you telling me every game we played against montreal, columbus, boston or washington... toronto should be play with intensity because they eliminated toronto during playoff?

Richardson gamed Keefe last year and he did it again last night.

yea, but, that play and non-call that early in the game sets the tone for the rest of the game. usually, a clear shot from behind like that is called, especially early in the game.
Yep the Habs definitely set the tone......that's part of the problem.

In reference to the title of this thread, "Lyubushkin is needed" ....don't get your hopes up for this guy, he's like a Holl clone but plays tougher (he likes to bully smaller forwards) and gets rag dolled often in fights against players his size. He's a good 5 /6 guy ... but will not move the needle in terms of making this team noticeably better. Take your expectations down 6 or 10 notches ;)
The voice of reason. :)

Back story :

Age 27
Formerly undrafted KHL "free wallet" who came over to NA at 24 to join Arizona a non playoff team usually found near the bottom of the NHL standings.
180 NHL games 1 goal & 18 assists 19 points 67 Pims & -24 +/- .

Now he is coming over to a team with playoff aspirations which is much different than making Arizona and likely to play in a #5-#7 role. He is also forcing a younger and perhaps better players Liljegren, Sandin or Dermott out of the line-up to dress.

Set expectations accordingly !!!

I looking forward to see his mobility and if he loses position to make and hit, and if those Pims are from poor penalties or physicality, and that -24 +/- isn't directed at giveaways and defensive zone mistakes.

He has got size and physicality both things the Leafs could use on the backend particularly with Muzzin in and out of the line-up.

Mrazek was a bad signing then, and looks worse now...never understood why Dubas signed him.

You'd think the Habs won the cup last night.... the number of friends who are Hab fans, who I have not heard from all season, have suddenly come out of hibernation...

Most embarassing game since the David Ayres desaster. The playoffs have another sort of deep hurt. But when it comes to "pants dropped" during a family celebration with all your relatives in attendance ... this game non-performance sure fits the bill of utter humiliation. Losing to the lowly Habs after last year playoffs is just the icing on the cake.

Funny thing - even if they win a playoff round this year I know that I will not be able to erase this stupid regular season loss.

More embarrasing then Ottawa coming back down 5-1 down and winning the game ?

Habs coming back to win a 3-1 series

Losing to columbus playing 5 games at home?

Or pittaburg missing crosby, letang, malkin, carter and still losing the game 7-2 ?

Embarrasing way of losing is a Keefe special

The way we got thoroughly dominated by NYI in JT's first time back there is right up there as well.

They played like shit and lost. I wish they hadn’t but whatever, not a big deal.

Sure, it's just one out of 82 regular season games. But the way it happened, just an all round piss poor effort against our oldest rival who took us out of the playoffs last spring, they're just a really bad team and that after us playing sub par for what can be considered an extended period of time and then Muzzin gets his 2nd concussion in a month. Maybe it's no big deal, but it sure feels bad. Perhaps it's a sign that best not to expect much from this team in the playoffs, right now it looks like the only thing different about this team this spring is that the playoffs for us won't last 7 games.

We're 40pts ahead of them in the standings  people try to manufacture significance in random regular season games that are no more relevant than any other to the players. You never want your team to play like that but it happens to every team occasionally.
If playing against the historical rival who recently gave you a humiliating defeat in the postseason sparking an offseason of pain and embarrassment is just "any other game" to the players we're f***ed. Keefe himself acknowledged the playoff loss in his pre-game press conference too

There's a difference between the 2017 loss to the Caps when you were big underdogs who made it a good series and what happened last spring

Yup, huge difference and I was thinking the same thing when it happened.

what this team needs is a Gary Nylund ...though, cant really think of any players in the league right now that matches that skillset.

Had he not gotten injured, he could have been something like a speedier version of Pronger. Just thinking about adding a Gary Nylund to this team ... sigh.
