I’m very curious how Keefe Handles this post game
This is a bullet he really needs to use and go a bit Torts , I really feel that if ever there was a perfect time in the season and after this one . I would , it would be a shock to the system

See what happens when Lili sits?

He's infinitely better than Sandin defensively right now, so I have no clue why he has been sitting. And if he ever rediscovers his draft year level of offensive prowess, his ceiling would still be insane. They reigned him in to focus on defense and it worked. There is no reason for him to be sitting anymore.

The D pairs tonight need to be scrapped and never gone back to again. Reilly-Sandin definitely does not work.

Carolina always seemed to play a quiet game in front of him in seasons and post seasons past. I agree that he’s been a bit too active back there and I’d love to see him use his large frame better.

Actually, I seem to recall Mrazek having a lot of tire fire clown show games vs Toronto in the past. That big 8-6 comeback win a few years back, the David Ayres game started with Mrazek diving out to make a goofy play. He just plays a wild and ineffective game.

I am genuinely serious, either trade for someone like JT Miller and move up Robertson/Miky to the second line and have Nylander centre it or find a way to trade Tavares (NMC and all). That contract is going to look even worse very soon. He doesn't fit the identity of the team. Nylander actively has to slow down his pace to match his average skating and the one thing that made him so good in years past (puck control down low with impeccable handling) has all but dissipated. Production means naught at this juncture as it tied in to when Nylander was on a heater 20ish games ago. Kerfoot has no business on any serious team's second line either.

What about moving tavares to the third line, trading a top 6 who can really skate to pair with willy. maybe Kerfoot - Tavares - Kamf (kase makes more sense), Willy - Rental - Mik. Both lines playing 15-16mins

It's disappointing that Tavares' 3rd period against Washington looks like it was just a blip, and not him starting to build another hot streak. That was one of his worst games. The Leafs are set up to contend by having two elite 1st lines, and he's just not pulling his weight.

Aside from that, the whole team ranged from bad to downright terrible. It's one of those games that you just shouldn't have at this time of year in a super winnable game that would have helped get them into first. Especially if you're going to talk about not playing down to your competition right before the game

At first glance the Rielly/Sandin pairing looked like a bad idea. Still not sure what the thought process was there. Perhaps they picked names out of a hat?

An experiment gone wrong. Give Sandin a bigger opportunity against soft competition .. Nice that he score but it went south in a hurry after that.

Good learning experience for him.

That being said never go back to that again. Rielly-Brodie are about as rock solid of a d-pair as they come.

If we could ever get it done, JT Miller would be perfect. Good skater, finisher and two way player. He's scoring at a great pace on a bad Canucks team as well. Tavares on the third line could work but for team political reasons probably would never happen.

Post i made from a different thread:

leafs ranked by cap hit spent on position:

Goalies: 26th in the league
Defense: 24th in the league
Forwards: 2nd in the league (3nd as Vegas LTIR is screwing things up)

If the leafs aren't putting up top end offense and winning games you can't really blame anyone else other than the forwards.

Obviously the goalies both need to be better but you have to score more than 1 goal to win a game with the way this team is structured

NHL Forward Spending - Cap

I’m ok with it for the most part , but when it was painfully painfully obvious early on or even mid second , man do something drastic

I don't mind it from a data gathering intel POV generally, but at the same time, a lot of his experiments seem a little too "hey what if" than actually trying to build something thoughtful. And then they get scrapped just like that.

Would love Miller, but honestly I think we needs a top4 D-man more then a forward.

Sandin will be fine. This is on a Keefe not sure what was the point of changing things up ?
