Idiot Ken Reid on SN central bringing up goaltending being an issue when the fact is the scored one fookin goal tonight and the D left Petr out on his own too often. Not suggesting mrazek is some kind of martyr but holy shit the entire team sucked.

Team did suck tonight. He had no chance on the second goal but the issue is what's been plaguing the goaltending - inability to make saves in high danger areas.

Florida is 0-3 against Seattle and Ottawa this season and Carolina is 1-4 against Seattle and Ottawa

Tampa's lost games against Ottawa and Buffalo this season as well.

Arizona has beaten Colorado and Vegas.

Bad teams beat good teams so it happens.

I get it , I really really do !
But very puzzling this bad and how the entire team all at the sane time , that’s the thing that gets me …

Buffalo played a great game, credit to them, Cozens and Dahlin looked really good, even Mittelstadt was noticeable in a good way. I hope they turn it around.

Ugly game, bad loss, zero entertainment value.

It's hard to blame Mrazek for tonight but what's a guy gotta do to get a save here? I heard someone imply something to that effect quite loudly after Skinner got Buffalo's 4th.

In this 'soft stretch' of schedule, the Leafs have lost, and lost big, against the two worst teams they've played.

Every team has bad games, even Tampa and Colorado and Florida, but to pull 0 points from 31st ranked Montreal and 29th ranked Buffalo while getting outscored 10-3 is deeply troubling.

Either they aren't prepared to play, or they figure 'f*** it, were in and playing Tampa or Florida anyways'.

Montreal and Buffalo completely contained the Leafs - there was no goalieing happening.

It was all just so...unnecessary.

Sitting Liljegren was unnecessary.

Starting Mrazek was unnecessary.

The wacky D randomizer was unnecessary (Rielly-Sandin...the f***?!)

Simmonds, Spezza, Dermott and Kerfoot have become wholly unnecessary.

Getting two more points to keep pace with the Florida teams, though, that was necessary.

I want to debate you on your points , but alas I can’t at all !

That’s the problem, there hasn’t been many laughably bad goals (mrazek had a few last week vs Montreal no doubt) but far too often you just find yourself asking for a damn save.

Oh and I never want to hear anyone on this team talk about playing down to their opponents again. They came into this game aware that this is a problem and just didn't even try. At some point you need to just shut the f*** up about your problems and just make the effort to fix them. Blown out by the Habs, loss to the Coyotes, another blow out by the Sabres and the list goes on and on.

Mrazek has had an over .900% season total only once. His numbers continue to plummet, it would be less concerning if he was an AHL goaltender making no money. However, he makes way too much money and plays statistically like a third stringer at best. I hated this signing in the off-season, I knew how it was going to turn out just based on how he is. Like a script, he’s playing even worse than I anticipated he would, didn’t think that would be possible.

Tavares’ regression continues. I’d be more understanding if it was just a small slump, but he’s their captain, makes $11 million a season, he’s paid to be a game changer and put up big time goals. The only time he’s been really good over the last few months was the previous game.

Our second line has been pretty mediocre for most of 2022.

Our defence continues to struggle, our goaltending is laughably bad, the only bright line that I see is our first line. They can’t score 5 goals every night to compensate for bad goaltending and mediocre defensive coverage. Very disappointed.

I’m seriously wondering if they will even win a game in the first round, I think they will struggle to do that. Can’t win games with defence and garbage goaltending, not against superior teams.

Goaltending needs to be revamped and Tavares needs to be dumped. Don't care what it looks like his contract will waste the remaining years we have with this core, and if we win nothing between now and then Matty and Mitch probably walk and were rebuilding again.

Whole team deserves blame for that 5-1 embarrassment. I think with Mrazek though, it's a two step problem. He plays the game so sloppy that it doesn't inspire confidence: gets into these crazy butterflies on routine plays, flops around all over the ice and seems to make himself as small as possible so there's no margin for error when there's a weird bounce here and there. The team that plays in front of him clearly has no confidence in him, so it's a downward spiral. That's the good news. The bad news is our other goalie is kind of similar in strengths and weaknesses.
